If you are runninf windows xp than do an update to service pack 2. that should fix the usb problem..... you can do that by going to www.microsoft.com and clicking on the service pack 3 option than you will need to install the update software whitch only take about a min. than press express and the software will scan your computer for the latest updates. you might need to do this 2 times if ou are running with service pack 1.

1 usb port on toshiba satellite c660 doesn't recognize mouse

If is just a USB port, then it could be a driver problem, or that USB hub is turn off, or is a fried/bad USB port. Try another USB device on that port too.

Two rear USB ports are working fine and have the keyboard and mouse attached to them. Two to ports are mostly working though they give a "Not recognized" error message when I connect an Iomega 320 GB...

Hello there!

there could be problem with your HDD aswell, somethimes usb dont want to recognise some external devices and it shows that error also known as "yellow message".

On your place i would backup all files there and do one format of that for cleaning, who knows what might be in it aswell, some viruses, trojans, ...

If that havent solved your problem, then open up your pc and check look of your motheboard (if you have some eltronic experience you could check joins on it as well with voltmeter) . Thats it.

PS/2 mouse port not working?

Hello fredbeer,

Besides the obvious checking with your device manager, you can download a port test kit HERE. That will be able to test if it's working. The other thing you can do is switch the keyboard into the mouse port and the mouse into the keyboard port. You should get some errors, if not, one of them will work and the other won't. Hopefully, you'll get the keyboard in the mouse port to work, so you know the port is working. Also, if you have any other PS2 devices that you can test it with.

Good Luck and don't forget to leave a rating based on my solution.

Thanks

Mark

ASUS P4SDX USB Ports not recognized as USB2 HS Ports

The message comes up when a USB 2 device is connected to a slower USB 1 or 1.1 port. It is only to advise you that the devise will operate faster on a USB 2 port. If your computer has only USB 1 or 1.1 ports, you will always see the message. You can buy and install a card with USB 2 ports and install it. It will come with the USB 2 drivers. Install the card and the drivers and then connect your USB 2 device to the new hardware and you should not see the message anymore.

Good luck, And let me know ho it works out for you.

Usb ports not working

All the USB ports were working before he installed SP3 and rebooted. After that only the mouse/keyboard ports worked. Same thing happened to me. No other changes were made, so something added/change by SP3 is the culprit.

Questions is...what did SP3 do to break USB and how to fix it?

ECS GeForce 6100SM-M usb issues

Hello,

Like always I'm sorry for I have to be the one who's giving the bad news. The problem you face is related to a complex issue with the keyboard and mouse receiver electronics. More precisely these devices emulate a standard ps2 interface but adapts it to work with a usb port. This emulation should work fine but has some limitations. A motherboard has some 2-4 usb main ports that can be hard wired to some 1-2 usb hubs mounted also on the motherboard. A urb hub has the advantage of replicating a usb port so more then 1 devices can be connected at the same time, sharing the same interface. Motherboard manufacturers use this to enable their products to have more usb ports available to the user. However there are some devices that aren't compatible to be used through these usb hubs and must be connected directly to a usb port in order to use the full bandwich. Wireless keyboards and mices, or usb to ps2 adapters are such examples. As hard as you may try these woun't work untill you replug them at every restart because they can't be properly initialised through a usb hub. most of these devices have been optimised for such uses and don't display such problems, but as you see not all of them.
The only solution in your case would be to change the usb port where you plug these devices. Maybe your motherboard has some 1-2 usb ports that aren't run through a usb hub. Those ports would work fine. If this doesn't help, then there's no other way to make those 2 devices more "compatible" to eachother.

Hope you'll be lucky with finding the right usb plug in your motherboard. Just try every one of them, reinstall the drivers if needed, and check to see if this solves the problem.

A USB mouse will work but the PS/2 mouse failed. What causes it?

Hi melch, On the PS/2 mouse, chances are that the surface mounted fusible link/resistor supplying the +5VDC is open. It is normally very near the PS/2 port and marked [0] or labeled F???. This can be verified by measuring the absence/presence of +5 at pin 4 of the connector. In some cases, it is the I/O chip that gets damaged. Re "only two(2)USB port" aside from the 2 rear USB ports, the Asus CUV4X-C has another pair of USB connectors that are normally connected to the front panel of the casing. It is located very near the motherboard battery. Re "...prompting...high speed USB port...", normally by updating your OS (say XP to SP2) or downloading/installing latest VIA 4 in 1 Drivers should make your USB 2.0 compatible. Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.
