HI,

Instead of using an offset screwdriver a regular one will work fine. Open the top cabinet door for a better angle, bend the plastic a little and you should have a clear shot at it. The bulb is nothing special its a g8 base 120v 20w bulb.

There is a grille above the door and clock/cooking controls that
extends the width of the unit. You need to remove this to get to the
light receptacle. With the power to the unit off (unplug if you have
access to it), get on a chair with a Phillips head screwdriver. Look
down from the top and you will see two screws about 6" in from the
ends. If you don't see the screws, open the cabinet doors above the
unit (mine were blocking the screw heads). Remove the screws and set
aside. Pull girlle towards you at the top being careful not to break
the tabs at the position where the screws you just removed are located.
After the tabs are out the grille should lift up (there are three
hook-tabs along the bottom). Set it aside. Over toward the right you
will see a smaller vertical grille. Just to the left of this there is a
void with a Phillips head screw facing you. Remove the screw from the
receptacle tab. Lift up the receptacle tab on the right. When the
receptacle is clear on the right, move the receptacle to the right to
release it from the tabs on the left. Lift the receptacle up until it
clears the housing it just came from. Pull it gently toward you, rotate
it bottom-toward you, and you will see the bulb to be replaced.

Does this model have an incandescent bulb, or a fluorescent ballast?

I found the specs for your microwave.

See page 39 of this manual for instructions on replacing the bulb. You'll need to remove four screws and the top grille to get at the light bulb.

You will need a 30 W replacement bulb (Part # WB02X4235 from GE, or get a generic at your local hardware store).

The "13" in the model number means it's a 1.3 CF model.

What is the serial # range for GE Spacemaker microwaves vintage 1984-1985

That would be difficult to track down, but you can use a universal door switch "open or closed " selection making it handy, some tv repair shops still may carry some parts, appliance repairman another choice.

GE Spacemaker Microwave JVM 1542WF 002 : everything works except the turntable and it won't heat. Have tried the TT on/off nothing happens. Have tried the power setting...nothing happens.

Usually, power for the turntable motor and the magnetron tube (the microwave source) are controlled by a couple of things. One is a relay on the control circuit board, and the other is a switch that's operated by one of the door latches. It's possible the control board has gone bad or bad connections have developed. It's also possible the door switch has failed or is out of adjustment and the oven thinks the door isn't closed.

Diagnosing this kind of trouble may require working on the oven while it's operating. MICROWAVE OVENS USE HAZARDOUS VOLTAGES WHICH CAN KILL YOU. You might want to leave the repair to a professional because of safety concerns. Unless the circuit board requires replacement, it's probably worth having this repaired. Unlike some repairs, this one won't cost as much as a new oven.

I have a GE Spacemaker model JVM140H 002. The night lights work, but the main lights do not work, I can hear the relay clicking and the night lights go out.

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or stuck in "night light" mode. Sometimes this will similarly affect the fan operation or inside light, too.

The microwave doesn't have power

Sounds very much like the magnetron is at the end of its life , if everything else on the oven is working but you don't get that familiar hum as the magnetron kicks in and I am afraid they can cost as much as a new oven especially with the repair cost , time to go to the store and get a new one it will probably be cheaper ... If there's no obvious removable cover over the bulb (and the owner's manual doesn't address it) some disassembly may be required.

Always unplug a microwave before removing or installing any bulbs.

Since it's an over the range type, remove the vent grille across the top and see if bulbs can be accessed there. There may be a panel on the bottom covering the light(s), instead.

If not, chances are you'll have to remove it from the wall, then remove the outer cover. If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

Once it's out of the wall, the outer cover (wrapper) will need to be removed, just as you'll need to do on a counter top model.

The screws you need to remove should be pretty obvious, and a special driver (such as a T20H Torx type or GTXH20-100) may be needed.

Be sure to put all the screws back in the right holes, since some may be special grounding screws.

Bulbs can be had in most grocery stores, hardware stores, home improvement centers, and big box or department stores.

Many models use halogen lamps. You must not touch the new one with your bare skin, as the oils will shorten the bulb life.

We're happy to help you and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.
