Internet connection on laptop

Hey I got a Hp Pavilion dv6000 laptop and a linksys router, when I try to connect to the network it keeps saying connection unsuccessful but then when I open the network and sharing center it keeps trying to identify the network then it says unidentified network. the modem and the router is connected just like they are in the manual. It just will not identify the network, It has worked in the past but it won't work for some reason now. I tried connecting my psp to the router and followed the instructions I found on the internet. after I did that it won't work know
