Automatically selects HDMI (which is correct), but when comes to login screen, everything looks like a pastel. Can barely read type, picture for background looks like a pastel painting

You may need a driver for the monitor, or a change of color resolution in settings. Right-click the desktop, or see if there's a graphics icon in the tray notification area, (near the time).

I have a Gateway HD Monitor Model 2100. The screen flickers and turns off. I can cycles the on.off button and it comes back on, only to flicker and turn off later.

Either you have a problem with the back light or inverter.
When you disconnect the unit from its signal connection, you should see no signal input message.
If the unit flickers and then go out, while disconnected, you can rule out the video card and assume it is the back lights or inverter.
90% of the time, it is the back lights.

Monitor is black...checked all connections..OK. Turned computer off and back on,still no screen. HELP!!!

The first thing I would do if possible is hook up another monitor to the computer to see if that one works. If it does, then your monitor has gone bad. If it doesn't work either, then your video card has gone bad. Did you hear any beeps when you started up your computer? If you did, then this usually means there is something wrong with the video card. Also, sometimes the power button is turned off. Are there any lights lit at all on the monitor and are they green or yellow?

Gateway monitor FPD1975W won't display

Same problem - unplug both computer and monitor - hold power button for monitor for 15-30 seconds...then power it back on and then power on the computer. Seems from other sites there is a power issue with the monitor - this worked for me.

It seems the the monitor is not supporting the resolution you have selected in display settings of operating system. therefore please minimize the resolution of display then check your monitor. hopefully it will work
