Hi,

I will advice you reset the unit, this might help fix the abnormality with the black screen problem. follow these procedure to reset your tom tom gps.
Make sure your battery is charged before you begin. TomTom suggested allowing your device to charge for at least 2 hours before resetting it. Remove your device's SD card from the card slot.
Find the "Reset" pinhole button on the bottom of the device.
Hold the "Reset" button down for 10 to 15 seconds or until your device resets itself. You will need a flattened paperclip or another small metal object to reach inside the pinhole.
Power the TomTom back on and insert your SD Card. You have now reset your TomTom gps, now try reinstall the update.

Will not turn on

If your device is not having power, there are 3 factors to be checked. The battery, the charger and the device itself. Run a test on the three factors and you will be able to tell which has the fault and how to solve it.

Insert the battery in another device, then you try to charge it for some time, lets say about 2 hours, then you try to power the device on to see if it will power it on, if it powers it on, then it means your battery is alright. Put it back in the gps device and power it on.

Then you connect you charger to another device to see if it will charge. If it charges it, then it means the charger is alright but if it does not charge, then it means the charger is bad and need to be replaced with a new one, then you connect the new charger to your device to see if it will charge it and power it on, if it charges and powers it on, then that solves the problem, but if it does not, then you need to test the device itself.

Then you further go ahead to test the device by connecting it to a computer and its normal charger, then it means there is a problem with the connection port of the device is bad or there is an internal problem somewhere.

Hope this helped. Thank you for using fixya

Batterie

You tom tom uses a lithium ion rechargeable battery that lasts at least four hours after charging it fully. To charge it fully, you need to connect it to a charger and allow it to charge for about 2-3hours, if he battery is weak it will loose charge easily loosen its strength easily and if it is dead, it will not hold a charge at all.

What exactly is wrong with your battery? if it is not holding a charge, then i will advice you you first try to use it on another device and plug it for about 2 hours before using it in there, if it works, then it means your battery is still working perfectly fine, but if it does not, then it means the battery is dead and needs to be replaced.

Test your charger also by using it on another device to see if it will charge the device, if it charges it, then it means your charger is alright, but if it does not, then it means the charger is faulty that is why it is not charging the battery. And all you have to do is replace the battery.

Also you need to test the device, by fixing another well tested battery into it, and using a well tested charger on it, if it does not come on, or seem to charge, then it means there is a problem with the connection port or something with the unit.

Hope this information helped.

Died! Can it be fixed or do I get a new one?

First you need to check if there is a problem somewhere. You need to check the battery, the charger and the device itself.
You need to carry out some tests to be able to be sure what the problem is.
First test is the battery, try out a friends well tested battery into the device and power it on, if it comes on, then it means the battery of your device is either weak or dead, try to charge it on another device then power it on to see if it will come on. If it comes on, then the battery is alright and if it does not come on, then it means the battery is bad and you need to replace it.

Next test is for you try out your charger on another device to see if it will charge the device, if it charges the device, then it means it is alright and if it does not charge the device, then it means the charger is bad and need to be replaced.

The last test is for you to connect your garmin nuvi to a computer and power it on to see if it will come on. If it does not come on, then it means there is a problem with the connection port or there is an internal problem or something.
After carrying out these tests, you will be able to tell where the problem is from and fix it at the same time.

After carrying out these tests, then you can replace the device if the problem is not from any of these sources, because fixing it will cost you about the price you can get another one.
Hope this information was helpful to you.

Good Morning, My sat nav has turned it's sefl off and wont come back on .....! Any ideas ..... Regards, Lee.

If you have an AC to DC eliminator (adapter) for this unit try to switch it on while this adapter is connected. May need to keep the power on button pressed for 2 or 3 seconds. Also check whether there is fuse in the cable that runs from your cigarette lighter plug to the GPS. If there is one, check whether it is a blown fuse. If there is a multimeter available check the voltage at the tip of the cable. If all these seems to be alright, and if this is a very old unit, check whether you can open this unit and replace the battery. Most chances are that the battery is dead, or it is not charging.

My c330 turns on but ten goes off in about 10 to 15 bseconds. It says low battery. I ave two cargers for it and neiter seems to be carging te unit. Is it possible tat this is due to te extreme cold weater...

Are you trying to charge the unit in the car, on the computer, or both? If you are trying both methods, it is possible that you may need a new battery. First, try resetting the unit though. Remove the faceplate, and find the reset button on the right side of the unit. Press this, and see if you can use the unit on the charger.

My garmin won't charge

Hello there:
There are a couple of reasons that these units do not charge the first is pretty obvious is to check the power cord tjo ensure that it is working properly.
Next remove the power cord and then remove the battery
now get a qtip and some rubbing alcohol and clean all the areas that the battery contacts and the battery it'self and inspect the terminals that the battery connects to and see if there is any visible damage.
now check te place where the power cord is plugged into the unit and see if the part is loose if so i t will need to be repaired ok once all of this has been done
put the battery back in the device nad plug it in and try to turn it on and see if it will now charge.
If not then you wil have to have the unit service because of a faulty part on the mainboard for the gps ok?
Hope this has been very helpful for you.
Best regards Michael

Humminbird 240 won't start

Hi!
If your unit is a portable unit (takes 8 'AA' batteries), make sure that the batteries say 1.5 volts and not 1.2 or 1.3 volts as these won't have the right amount of power.
If not, make sure that the power cable (where it plugs into the sounder) is installed with the small notch pointed towards the top.
Best of luck!
Mike
