Motorola SM56 Port Open

I have the setup files to install the Motorola SM56 Internal modem and took
them all the way over to my friend's house to install the modem in his
machine.  I didn't copy the Virtual Device Driver Files MOTVCD.VXD,
SM56PCI.VXD and SM56PCI1.VXD as they were hidden or system files and I
stupidly forget them.  Thus when Windows detected the modem I ran through
the setup and it said files were missing which I had to skip.  I didn't
expect it to work and sure enough it didn't, everytime I selected the modem
and did some diagnostics on the port in control panel it said the port was
already open.  Is that because of these virtual device drivers? as I don't
want to go all the way over again and then have the same problem with the
port being open!
