This is your monitor going half screen? And what do you mean by half screen? Does the screen move over to one side and only fill half the screen?

Check your resolution on your screen and then try various settings to see which one is least problematic.

Dell Studio one Powers on then screen goes black

Either CPU or GPU is getting too heated up.. Try to clean and apply thermal paste on your CPU GPU chips.. Usually cpu gets heated up when you've a weak SMPS output.. Check that too with known good one power unit.

Have System Tool infection on Lenovo X201

You will need to print this or write this down as these instructions involve shutting down your computer.
Here we go:
1. Shutdown your computer.
2. Press the power button on your computer to turn it on, after you the see the screen come up that says "Lenovo", write where your screen then goes black, you are going to repeatedly press the "F8" key until a weird screen comes up with different options.
3. You are going to select with your arrow keys "Safe Mode with Networking" and press enter.
4. Wait for your computer to go into safe mode, if box comes up asking if you want to go into safe mode press "yes".
5. Now go to your start menu and open "Internet Explorer".
6. At the top right go to "Tools" and then "Internet Options".
7. A windows will come up. Go to the "Connections" tab and hit the "LAN Settings" button at the bottom of the window.
8. In this new window that comes up, if there are any boxes checked, please un-check them now.
9. Hit Ok and then Ok again.
10. Please download the file from this address "http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/iExplore.exe".
11. When the box comes up if you want to Run or Save please hit "Run".
12. Wait for a black box to appear, then wait for the black box to disappear(this may take a while).
13. Once it has finished its job it will disappear, it may come up with a "log" file and you can just ignore that.
14. Now go to this address "http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/anti-virus/malwarebytes-anti-malware" and hit the blue "download now" button, and "Run" this program too.
15. Please go through the installation process and install it on your computer.
16. Once it has finished installing, please open the program and make sure there is a bullet beside "Perform full scan", then hit the "Scan" button.
17. The scan may take a few hours, once it has finished it will show all of the malware it found which will include the System Tool malware. Hit the "Remove selected" button at the bottom left.
18. Once it has finished removing the malware, simply turn off the computer and turn it back on as you normally would.
19. Everything should be 100% back to normal.

I can't get any web player to stay full screen. Youtube, Megavideo, JWplayer, tvdex, hulu, the list goes on. Please help. It isn't fixed by changing the accelerate video settings thing.

If megavideo is full "web browser" page size click the image/player after you hit the green play button and the video is playing, then it opens a new window with the small player in it, then hit the only dark grey button that falls down screen that says like "cinema on" to turn it off and make the player show, play the video, and now you can full screen it and keep it full screened! If plugin questions keep popping up it's because spam ads or the video itself needs you to keep pushing yes.

My acer netbook starts and you can see the screen works but couple seconds later it just turns black. Can anyone tell me why its doing that?

Hi,

It appears that Operating system is failing to load. Try the steps below:

1. Turn Off the computer
2. As soon as you power button to turn ON the computer keep on tapping the F8 key, it will boot to Advance boot menu,
3. Select Safemode with the help of Down arrow keys and hit Enter
4. If the computer is booting to Safemode then there is no hardware failure, you can try full system restore.

To do a full system restore, please follow the below mentioned steps:
1. Turn Off the computer
2. As soon as you hit the power button keep on holding the Alt key and keep on tapping the F10 key ie Alt+F10
3. It will boot to Acer Recovery Console
4. Select Full System restore and follow the on screen instruction

NOTE: This is erase everything from the computer including any data; pictures or music

Thanks and regards,

The picture on my Compaq monitor shifted 1 inch to the left. There is a one inch black space on the right side. I have a HP Compaq d530 CMT

click menu button on monitor. you will see a series of Icons (or scroll through a series of Icons) and one will be a square with a smaller square inside it that is half inside the larger and half out. Navigate to that Icon. Use the + or - buttons to move the screen in either direction until it evens out. Use + or - button to navigate back to exit and and then press menu button to exit screen. Or, sometimes you simply push the menu button a second time. These 3 buttons will be on the bottom front of the monitor. Good luck

Monitor displays breifly then goes to blank screen

If tried the monitor on two other computers with the same result -- definitly your monitor is faulty. Take it to the repair shop. To make double sure, run your computer with another monitor. If everything is fine now; you can blame the monitor.

Got CPU from friend and it wont work

When prompted again hit F2 as the bios clock may be incorrect, which means your cmos battery needs changing, reset the time and save, exit for a re boot. Take the side off the pc and look at the motherboard for a flat disc shaped watch type battery and replace if required.
