My pump (pentair whisper flow 1 hp) has been making noise for about a year. Then it started making a clicking noise on top of that, and I knew it wouldnt last but a week. A day later it never came back on again. It was dead. I purchased the same pump for $480 and wired it back in, and still nothing. My question is, it comes wired 230v. Due to my testers being broken, Im not sure if it is 110 or 220 coming in. The breaker box has (2) 15amp breakers for the pump, which are connected. I have it wired for 220, but im not sure if I have 220 or 110 coming in. Would the pump still run slow if wired for 220 but only 110 coming in? Or not at all? There are 3 contactors in the timer box. And red and black line coming in to the box. Im thinking the pump laboring so bad killed the on & off switch, but can't tell without testers. If I have 220 coming in, and change the pump wiring to 110, will it burn up the motor? Im just thinking that the old pump also burnt something else out to. Or I have the pump wired for 220 and only have 110 coming in. Thanks

Based on your description of the breakers you should have 230VAC to the pump motor. Even if it is only 115VAC you should still get a response from the unit when powered on. A 230-connected motor will run on 115 for some time but will overheat and eventually fail. If you are getting nothing you have issues with the power as well as the pump. Get the $40-$50 multimeter and check your line voltages to ground and line-to-line. You will find a problem somewhere.

And to answer your other question...yes, connecting 230VAC to a motor setup for 115 will burn up the winding.

1.5 HP PUMP JUST HUMS?

If its the "hum" that bothers you there can be debris in the impeller, take out the pump basket, reach down and feel the plastic blades beyond the hole at the bottom of the pump, should be smooth and clean. Hair often builds up at this point and causes noise. If this is a water flow problem I'm assuming its an in-ground pool. When you "prime" the pump make sure you are pulling off only the main drain.

I have a chamberlain whisper drive garage door opener. When I open the door and it reaches the top it starts making a loud noise. It's like the motor is still trying to pull the door up but it can't...

SOUNDS LIKE THE UP LIMIT IS EITHER OUT OF ADJUSTMENT OR NOT WORKING.

TURN IT ABOUT THREE TURNS COUNTER CLOCKWISE. THIS SHOULD BE ENOUGH TO MAKE IT NOT OPEN ALL THE WAY. THEN ADJUST IT 1/2 TURN AT A TIME THE OTHER WAY UNTIL IT GETS CLOSE THEN SMALLER ADJUSTMENTS TILL YOU ARE HAPPY WITH WHERE IT STOPS.

HOPE THIS HELPS

Whisper Flo model WFE 6 (1 1/2 HP) appears not to turn thus not pumping water through system; only clicks on/off when pressing fitler motor button on panel. Other spa equipment consists of: Pentair...

Possible bad motor. You would need to test voltage at the motor connections with a multi meter. If the voltage is correct, then the motor or start capacitor is bad. If the proper voltage is not correct, then you would need to look upline in the electrical system to find the problem

Kitchenaid Whisper Quiet + dishwasher making loud humming noise

Very likely pump motor shaft seal leaks water into bearing casing buildup of rust and consequently noise. I just replaced $112 worth of pump assy and it's back to normal. I would also buy repair manual for $10 on-line to be sure how to disassemble the sump to get to the pump.
