when i extend the wand my vacuum looses suction

  • Anonymous Oct 26, 2008

Lose suction when using wand and it makes a different noise.

  • loriwiley65 Oct 28, 2008

first the extend wand had too much suction at the base and was pulling the hose in on itself. now there is no suction on the extend hose at all, yet the main vacuum is fine.

Me too...........carpet part works fine but when I want to use upright attachment a strange muffled noise occurs and no suction. I have pulled this thing apart everywhere I could possibl get into by hand. GRRRRRRRRRRR

Sounds like a gate closing that prevents suction to the hose/wand extension. Wand will not go all the way down into hose to close off top cap. Floor part works if wand and handle not attached.

If the wand alone causes a suction loss, there are only a couple of issues:

  • leakage
  • blockage
If it is leakage, remedy the defect or install the wand correctly.  If it is a blockage, you'll have to find and remove it.

It wont pick up using the wand

There might be a few things you can try.
First, does the vacuum have a dial or control to turn the suction to the wand? If so, make sure you've set or turned this so that the wand suction is activated.
Second, most wands have a suction control vent. If this has been uncovered, the suction will not work efficiently. Look near the area where the wand connects to the vacuum and see if you can locate the suction control vent. There should be a plastic partial ring that can be moved to cover or uncover the hole.
I hope this helps. If so, please come back and rate my solution!

Dyson hose does not produce alot of suction when extended.

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

It sounds as though the wand/hose is blocked. with the machine locked in the upright positino, remove the hose from the machine, switch on and test the suction. If the suction is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction from the top of the hose. If the suction is strong, you will need to check the wand for a blockage. If the suction is still poor, check the hose for a blockage.

You may find it useful to wash the filter as this can sometimes cause a drop in performance if its dirty and it wuold be more noticable from the hose.

I hope that this information is useful to you.

Kind regards
Darran

A Dyson dc 17 Animal and the wand/hose has lost suction

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

From your description of the problem, it sounds as though the wand/hose is blocked. To check this, remove the wand/hose assembly from the machine, switch it on and test the suction from the top of the wand with your hand. If the suction is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction from the top of the hose. If its good here, then you know that the wand handle is blocked.

No suction on wand of Dyson DC14 Animal

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

It sounds as though the wand handle is blocked. To check this, remove the wand/hose from the machine as if you were going to use it to vacuum the stairs. Switch the machine on and test the suction at the top of the wand handle with your hand. If the suction from the wand is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction again from the top of the hose. If the suction here is good, then you know the wand handle is blocked. If the suction is poor at the hose, you can remove the hose from the machine and clear any blockages here.

For the full blockage procedure please visit the support section on our website at www.dyson.com.

Kind regards

You probably have a blockage somewhere in the hose or in the base where the hose goes in. Remove the plastic tube at the base of the hose by simply unclicking it and remove the obstruction.

Hose has suction but will not stretch when turned on

Hi.

I have repaired Dyson machines for years & have never come accross this.
The only way you will have trouble extending the hose is if there is a blockage at the bend where you hold the wand could be a coin which when switched on flips accross & blocks oppening.

Is it easy to slide wand from flexi hose with machine switched off ? You will need to remove wand from hose & push broom handle down to the bend & tap coin out.

If yes you probably have grit stuck under the collar that you push the button to unlock flexi hose from pipe.
