Dell is making me take the laptop back to Best Buy for the Geek squad to fix. Good luck on that one.

This is a Dell Inspiron 1526, same symptoms same error msg. Tried to reformat the hard drive, no go, it is in immediate state of failure.

Has anyone else had this problem of Dell not helping because it is a Best Buy purchase ?

Dageezer is mistaken...your hard drive is not neccesarily dead. I have had to run a full system test (a long session, about 6-7 hours) several times in the past few months. It's always fine after that. Just learned of a shortcut fix for this error. 1) Press F8 key as soon as computer begins startup; 2) In Windows "Advanced Options" menu, choose "Last Known Configuration"; 3) Press "Enter". This should work for you. Basically, VISTA sucks.

This is an easy one.

You hard drive has DIED.

Call or chat with Dell tech support and get a replacement drive

Since the system is less that a year old, you can request a replacement drive witht eh factory image on it too.

Will the Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 cpu/processor work with the Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop? I have already tried it and it wouldn't work and I'm wondering if I have to do anything extra for it to work.

The 1420 uses T-series CPUs with a front side bus (FSB) of 800MHz. The P-Series CPUs use a 1033MHz FSB and are not compatible with the unit. You need to stick to the T-series to stay compatible.

Dell inspiron 1420 cpu upgrade ???

There are very little things that you can upgrade in an laptop. The processor that you have on your laptop is top end processor in its family and the thae best you can do is to go for a faster core2duo as any other processor will not fit on your laptop motherboard.

Contact your system manufacturer to know about compatible processor for your laptop.

How do i restore my dell core 2 duo T5550 laptop

there is some options at the time of booting system. but if you go for recovery it changes your system to a fresh installation means it deletes all data on c drive and creates fresh installation. If you want to go for that before you take your data backup
