Question about Garmin n?vi 260W GPS
It keeps going through firware updates and won't stop. Will not locate satellites. Anyone know what I can do?
The nuiv 660 is the worse product Ihave ever purchased. For those whoe are thinking of buying a GPS research this product. It is the most unstable device I know. Considering I purchased it new and only less then 1 month down the track it starts crashing and doing completely what its not suppose to do it is not a good GPS to have. It is unreliable and you cant trust a system which freezes frequently and leave you helpless.

So what happens when you connect it to the PC?
Make sure no sd cards are installed while you do this.
download and install web updater, run it it gets to a screen where it looks for the gps, plug the usb cable into the GPS (no USB hubs please!!!) Make sure it detects the GPS before you continue. Select the updates you need (don't install all the languages !!) after this is done the program will report the downloads are on the garmin, unplug the unit and it will reboot and whilst rebooting it will install the updates....so don't touch it until it reboots again and displays the regular screen....and make sure the batery is fully charged before you do this...!

Take a look at this site, http://www.garmin.be/missing.html Download and unzip the software, plug your garmin in the USB and start the updater.exe program. It gets you started again. Later on you can use the Webupdater to get possible newer software..
It worked for me and my Zumo550

Garmin provides free updates through their website for the first 60 days after a new unit is put into service. After that, you'll have to purchase map updates. (Software updates are free, though.)
That said, you should first point your browser to www.Garmin.com and go through the process of downloading and installing their browser extension. You might have to reboot your computer or restart your browser to finish the installation.
Return to Garmin.com and register your nuvi. At some point, it will ask you to connect your nuvi to the computer via the USB cable. Do so. Your computer will also go through the process of installing the drivers necessary to view the nuvi as a storage device (so you can download photos and the like).
Once everything is up, the browser extension will tell you what the status is of your nuvi and of its maps. If you're entitled to a free map update, it will allow you to do so. If you're due for a software update, you can do that, also.
