Sony Bravia KDL32W4000- unwanted black panel

Whenever the TV is on - DVD, GAME or DIGITAL mode there is a see through black panel across the top of the screen showing which AV setting I am on. How can I get rid of this? I'm sure it's simple but the instruction book is of no help.

press the i button on the tv remote control
