Question about HP Pavilion dv1000 Notebook

Not recognizing ip address

My computer will only recognize numerical ip addresses. You have to type 209.131.36.158 for yahoo. This really doesn't do anything because to go any further you need another ip address.

First check the ip address:

1.Go to the dos prompt and type in ipconfig
2. An invalid ip address is anything that start off with 169.xx.xx.xx
3. If it give you an a valid ip address, go to a blank line on the dos prompt
4. Type ipconfig/release..press enter. A lot of information is going to come up
5. Go the next blank line in dos type ipconfig/renew.
6. Then power cycle the modem and computer by turn the modem completely off and then turn off the computer for 3 minutes. Then turn the modem and computer back on. Check to see if this work.

Says i am connected but when i open firefox it says that i have no network connection... the wireless icon also says it is acquiring ip address

if the message aquiring ip address comes in computer then it says that the wireless router is not giving an ip address to your computer.... check if any static ip address is assigned to your wireless connection...if so change to "obtain ip address automatically".... right click on wireless network name> goto properties > authentication tab> uncheck "enable IEE athentication"
now try to connect again, still not restart the computer once...... this will resolve the issue.... still if it is not connected then check for the security settings in the router... if your computer is XP/MAC, it may not recognize WPA security type.... change it to WEP type and try to connect again....

Wont connect to the internet even though it has an LAN ip and the router recognizes it.

If you can see the router recognize it, would that be a wireless router and you can see it in the connected devices list? or just that the light is on?

Let's start at the beginning. Let's check what ip address you have now. open up a command prompt (Start->Run->cmd then Enter) type "ipconfig". Note these numbers.

1.) Go into Network Connections (Control Panel) 2.) Go into the properties for the adapter you would like to connect with. 3.) Find the TCP/IP for that adapter and click the properties button. 4.) Both "Obtain an IP address automatically" & "Optain DNS server address automatically" 5.) Close those windows and open up a command prompt (Start->Run->cmd then Enter) 6.) type "ipconfig" and note the numbers. Only bad number would start with "169.xx.xx.xx" which means no ip address was distributed. Type "ping yahoo.com" if you get 4 replies then you have a solid internet connection.

hope this help, - Best Regards, -md

Printer does not print, computer does not recognize that printer is on same wireless network

I'll need some more information for this one. What type (model and manufacturer) is the printer?

What operating system is on the computer?

What type of IP assignment are you using on the router and the printer? (DHCP v. static)

Generally, this problem occurs when the printer is programmed to use DHCP for IP address assignment. The problem with this is, it has a new address every time the thing restarts.

The computer on the other hand, always looks for the same IP address for the printer when it is time to print.

So, if you find out what your router is assigning for IP addresses (ex: 192.168.1.15) and subnet mask (same ex: 255.255.255.0) then you could ASSIGN a static IP address in the printer (say, 192.168.1.26 with a mask of same as above).

With that done, you can program your computer to see that particular address on the network. You won't have to change the IP address in the computer, because that doesn't matter; the printer is not looking for the computer, the computer is looking for the printer.

When you set up your printer, and you are going through the wizard, one screen will ask you if you are installing a local or network printer. Local (even though it's a network) should be chosen. The next screen should allow you to assign or search for IP addresses on the network.

Once you find that, you should be fine.

good luck

are you saying that you want to set both computers in one network? here's the thing if i got you correctly, you said that one monitor is not functioning or something right? but anyways if you want to get both computer towers IP is for you to click on start then hit on RUN then type in CMD then enter to enter the command prompt then on the command prompt type-in ipconfig for you to know if you have the same IP address, default gateway, and subnet mask, IP address should have the same first three segment i.e is 192.168.192.XX and will differ on last segment to separate or assign it to a device.

Problem connecting to the net

You router may be set to be DHCP enabled so that it allocates the ip addresses automatically to each pc, so check that the pc's network card with connection problems is set in the properties on the TCP/IP line is set to obtain an ip address automatically. You can also try, Start>run then type ipconfig /flushdns to clear the pc ip address and dns. and restart pc. Lastly if you pc is both network cabled and wireless, ensure one or the other is dissabled as this can confuse the ip adress alocation.
