NEC PX-42VP4DA- Won't stay on

I saw your post replying to somebody who had a problem with their 42MP1 NEC not staying on. I have the same issue with my 42VP4DA- I turn it on ad I hear a click, the light goes red--> green then it clicks off again after a few seconds. I have been able to see the menu prompts for a few seconds while this is happening.

So far I have only tried unplugging the unit. There are no authorized NEC centers here in NH and it sounds pricey to get it repaired by them anyway.

What would you recommend starting with on my model? Do you think this sounds like a power supply issue or a scan board? If you think it's the power supply, would you know how I can check this with a multimeter?

Thanks for any advice you have as I am not ready to junk this tv if I don't have to.

Yeah, it's the power supply.  I've ordered (2) of these power supplies used, and the same problem seems to be happening with both.  The transformers on the power supply board (namely, the 170+ volt one) are the problem. You have several test points on the power supply board which you can touch with a voltmeter to see if your television is getting the correct voltage .  Mine made a a high pitch squeal which indicated which transformer was bad. If you find a place to get the transformers new - id like to know, because mine is still non functional because of this and the fact that a new PS board is over $600.

It's the PSU, likely the 170+ transformer. If you open the back of the Tv, on the power supply board you'll see test points (or TP) with different voltages the TV needs to function. Use your voltmeter on these test points to see what voltage they are when you turn on the television. Don't shock yourself.

The transformer that is making a loud noise and that is not working properly with my monitor is the 70+ (EC-1180 or PC40 9Z19 Z). I can't find the transformer or the PKG 1720 PSU. Help!

hi there, i recommend replacing the entire board. once you have a short like this, the micro board itself will become useless. the thin micro circuitry has become separated within the layers, preventing a closed current transfer. its best to order a new canvas so to speak.

Won't power on

you need to check the supply outputs. unplug the panel from the supply and check with an anolog meter. if the supply runs for 10 secs it will lock out.
or u could start with the resistors and FETs in the supply.

NEC PX-42VP4DA Won't stay on.

It may not be the power supply. It can also be another board/module that causes the PS to cut-off.
