Hey Mary777,
The most common cause of this is using your camera in either really hot conditions or really cold conditions. You could try cleaning the battery contacts and then charging the battery. If this doesn't work I would adjust the LCD screen backlight by following the directions on page 59 of your camera manual. I have included a link to a PDF download of your camera manual in case you need it. I hope this helps!

Why are the batteries dying so quickly in my Kodak 12MP?

It depends, if you are using regular Alkaline batteries, those are known to go dead really fast. Better if you try some rechargeable batteries with a rating of at least 2100mAh, anything smaller than that will drain just as quick as Alkalines.

My battery keeps going dead really fast on z740

Here are the steps:
1. Make sure you will install a new or fully charged battery/batteries into your camera. Please use lithium batteries Ni-Mh or rechargeable Batteries (2000 M.Amp or higher).
2. Clean the battery contacts.
a. Remove the battery/batteries and the memory card from your camera, then wipe the battery contacts with a soft, clean cloth.
b. Reinstall the battery/batteries into your camera
3. Turn on your camera without the memory card.

My wife let the battery totally die on our cyber-shot for the first time. I tried turning it on not know the battery was really dead. It came on and the lens went out and dead. We charged the battery and...

Hello and thank you for using Fixya!

I would recommend purchasing a new rechargeable battery from your closest electronics store and making sure that it will turn on. Usually, when rechargeable batteries go down, they take at leat 24-48 hours to get a good recharge. If it is acting this way though, the best thing to do is go aheand and replace them so that the bad batteries will not cause further problems.

Hope this helps and positive feedback is appreciated!

My canon A710 says it needs batteries no matter

My A710 did exactly the same thing. Spoke to Canon support. According to them you have to use Canon 2500 mah batteries (quite expensive - need a different charger as well). I've just bought new rechargable batteries from Sanyo (Eneloop pre-charged). And it solved my problem. I've also changed the batteries quite a few times and it never worked. But this did solve the problem for me.

Kodak Easy Share z712 IS not detecting charged battery

I have the exact same camera almost a year too. It is a total "swinka" on batteries. About 10-15 shots on super ni-cads, and quits without warning.

A pair of Energizer 7X gave me near 500 shots. Much cheaper but still ...

So 4 months ago I bought a charger and 2 rechargeables. Charge one while using the other one.
I may get 70-90 shots per charge on these lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, without flash.

Testing the batteries without a load doesn't really tell you anything.
What's the reading? Should be well over 4 volts when fully charged. Mine show 4.2V

Battery life

The rechargeables are only meant to last a couple years maximum (pretty good that you got three out of them). Also rechargeable NiMH's have approximately 5 times the power of standard alkaline batteries. Alkaline batteries should only be used in emergencies in digital cameras as they will only last for a short while before they are drained (as you've discovered).

The obvious solution is that it's time to consider purchasing a new set of rechargeable NiMH batteries. Look on the package for a power rating of at least 2,500 mah. Avoid batteries that do not list the power rating as they are generally inferior batteries.

Camera will not turn on

Have you tried a set of alkalines? They hold slightly more charge than rechargables. Also, your rechargables can go dead really, really fast. I use 'em but I always keep a set of alkalines handy, just 'cuz.
