They are jammed, try patting back of the camera gently with the palm of your hand while you turn it on

Check firs that battery are fully charged, low power batteries can cause problems of this kind.
If you are sure batteries are OK, then it is a typical jammed lens problem.
Dust and dirt, or a shock had caused the lens gear to jam.
Try helping the lens out by tapping the back of the camera or pulling gently lens with your fingernails, while you restart the camera.
Sometimes blowing canned air on the lens to remove dust can also help.
If this simple procedures do not help, then the lens barrel must be taken apart and re-assembled, as some of the lens gears is probably out of place.
In this case the job must be done by a qualified technician.
Find a repair shop in your area or check the last pages of your user manual to find information on how to get qualified repair service.

It is problem of lens mechanism and only solution is to replace lens assembly. Local camera repair shop will help you to replace lens assembly because it is not user level repair.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-F717 5.0 Megapixel

Hi Bella

That code means that the lens unit was unable to move from home position to switch on position.

These lens are extremely complex and I doubt if you could find someone able to repair the lens.

Therefore I suggest contacting Sony to find a accredited dealer to quote you on replacement of the lens.

My guess is it will cost half of what you originally paid for the camera.

Good luck.
