My Samsung HL-R4266W DLP picture went blank when I heard a pop and got the 3 blinking lights. Just replaced lamp, but still same problem. Hear grinding, loud humming noise and vibration. How do I know if it's the color wheel or the fan? Can I replace these myself? Called tv repair and they said color wheel alone costs $300, but I see on line for $100. Thanks!

First. The whirring or buzzing sound you hear is the Color Wheel and it needs to be replaced. Second, since I do not know when and if the original lamp has been replaced it is a good idea to replaced the lamp. The bad Color Wheel is the one causing the set to shut down.
I learned that the problem was a broken color wheel instead of a bad lamp. It appears that the color wheel gets very hot and brittle because of the proximity to the lamp. Eventually, parts of one or more of the glass wheel-blades break off and make noise if they are still next to the wheel.
Problem may be lamp is failing or ballast which operates lamp may be Bad. Could also be Temperature fault from Inoperable fan or Color wheel. Bulb of course is first choice of possible problem followed by color wheel then ballast. Color wheels usually will start making bearing noise when they start to fail. Hope this helps.
HLS4266W 43" dlp. In less than 1 yr whining grew worse, but did know what it was. Year passed with warranty and lamp went out. Replaced lamp. Worked for 3.5 hrs. Turned on next day and did not work. Got another lamp, but did not work. Figured out might be color wheel. Replaced it too. TV started up. Watched that night. Turned on next day, heard loud pop. Lamp never came on. Withdrew and reinstalled lamp a couple times to see if that worked. Did not. Currently, with new lamp and color wheel installed, lamp light blinks, but no lamp comes on. What now?
