Playstation 2 "froze up" during

Playstation 2 "froze up" during a game and would not work again. The disc spins, the power cable works, but no picture. It just briefly flashes light when reset/restarted, and then the screen is black. Tried a replacement cable, and different inputs on the TV. It seems to be the playstation console. Can I fix it? Thanx! Frustrated Mom

I tried moving the lens, it moved up and down and then readjusted itself when I closed the top of the console, but still only a brief flash of light on the screen, and then black. Also, when there is no disc in, the browser/ system configuration does not come up, only a black screen.

Where do I get the glass fuse for the pic and sound?? How do I replace it myself? Do I have to take the console apart?

Moving the lens did not help. More help please!!

That's it? Isn't there something else (the fuse for example) I can try?

There can be many reasons for the unit to freeze.

the first try would be to use a good cooling system.

so check it by using good fans

I would think that the ps2 overheatd and damaged the main board. You might first want to check the power voltate as one of the experts above described ,, if the power is sufficient and working then you got no choice but to replace the mainboard.

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Jul 14, 2008

In this case not really, the components are integrated so repairs arent really that easy to the main board.

Froze trouble comes when the unit is overheat,to solve this problem you need a blower or a fan that directly hit your PS-2,and also clean the eye lens by using a cotton swab,or a special CD / DVD cleaner.

hope this may help.

Can only assume that your PS2 has been severely damaged on the inside...your Video and Audio outputs may have jostled loose, one or more of the circuits inside that route the data to the processor have been damaged, or everything inside to the point where the processor itself just doesn't work. The lights, fan and working cd tray suggest that there is still power being supplied but you've lost some important component. Depending on how new your PS2 is, you might be able to take it back to the store, . Don't send it back to company, since you'll end up getting charged somewhere around $300 or more to get it fixed. Your best bet is probably to buy another PS2...they're relatively cheap now at $179.

HI,

If its not under warranty I would open up your ps2 and get some compressed air and use it to blow the dust out.

Posted on Jul 14, 2008

  • Priya darshan Jul 14, 2008

Another thing what you can do is clean the lens and get a can of compressed air to blow through the front (disc opening) and the back of the fan.

  • Priya darshan Jul 14, 2008

Also you may want to doublecheck your connection to
the tv just to be sure you don't have a cable a bit loose. Also, where
do you have your PS2 located? If it is in an enclosed area like an
entertainment unit it may be overheating due to not enough air.

The game system may be freezing up because of where you have it
located- it needs proper air flow to keep cooled down and avoid these
    freeze ups.

I have a playstation 2 system that had a game in it, and was plugged into a surge protector. While the game was in the system the surge protector blew. Now when ever i put only that certain game that was...

Make sure that the disc is clean and there aren't any fingerprints or visible scratches on it. The disc may have been damaged by the console's laser during the power surge, so look for any deformations in your disc or anything that looks irregular. If you find one and you can't wipe it off, then your disc may be damaged beyond repair.
As a last ditch effort, if you do find a scratch or gouge in your disc, you can try using a little bit of clear nail polish to fill in the scratch. If that doesn't work, then you'll have to replace the disc.

Wont load games

Could be a couple of things...The laser that read discs could be damaged, could be the motor that spins the discs is wearing out, or could be that dust has built up on the motor that spins the discs...hard to say without taking apart ya system, doing so will void any warranties. You are better off sending in to Sony or opt to buy another one.

Sony Playstation 3 does not read dvd blurau nothing

Check for any scratches on the game disc. If that doesn't work then turn off the system completely with the main power switch located on the back of the console to restart the system and try again, If somehow that doesnt work call Sony technical support so they can try to solve the problem.
