It is not the drum making the thumping noise it is your drum rollers that flat spots on them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE STARTING ANY REPAIRS
Your problem sounds like drum rollers have flat spots on them or in need of lubrication, or maybe your drum belt has slipped off of the idler arm pulley.
If you have a front loading machine,

Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer.
Be REAL CAREFUL not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch.
Then remove the top of the dryer.
Remove the lint filter, and the two screws that hold the lint filter housing in place to the top of the dryer.
Remove the front of the dryer. This will expose the drum and belt.
Remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm
pulley and motor.
Now is a good time to check the belt to see if it has slipped off of the
idler arm pulley and also to check the belt condition for wear.
Be sure to note the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go
to reinstall the belt.
Check your drum rollers for flat spots or wear, if they have flat spots
or wear on them replace them.
If the drum rollers don't have flat spots or wear on them then they probably
only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade
of machine oil such as 3 in One oil.
Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve your noise problem.

Creda simplicity TVU1 tumble dryer is making a thumping noise while drying

Hi dave hemming.
I do not believe it is a bearing that is causing your thumping noise
*****************************************************************************
No...you do not need a new drum...all you need is new drum rollers
You probably have a flat spot on one of the rollers, it will make the thumping sound when the drum rotates.
Go to the following webpage and get your drum rollers and install them and that should take care of the noise you are hearing

Heard a thumping noise everytime we turned dryer on...lasted a week or so.....drying a blanket last night cycle stopped half way thru.....still getting hot, just not turning. Thinking this is some type of...

The thumping noise comes when the drum is rubbing against the body surface. This could be due to the suspenders/support which is holding the drier drum are not steadfast. May be one has given the way. To know exactly if it is the belt or the coupling with motor or the support for drum , you have to open the back cover which you can do it by removing the screws at the back and then inspecting the machine.

Thumping/rubbing sound in drum

The belt tensioner roller has a flat spot caused by a worn bearing that catches and stops whilet the drum is turning. This causes the flat spot and the noise its making. You can purchase a new roller by itself and do change the belt the same time too

Dryer makes a clunking noise while drying. Is it possible that the drum is "Out of balance"?

Most likely if it is a thump thump noise a drum roller has a flat spot and is causing the noise.
The dryer will operate ok but it will be loud.

A service call may be needed to replace all 4 drum rollers.

Thumping noise in atlantis dryer after drying heavy mattress pad

Have you husband do a visual inspection of the drum and literally feel it to see if anything is caught or stuck on the drum. The motor also may have something caught in it as well. This would be the motor that turns the drum.
