A few days ago my GPX stopped working with batteries. I tried several, even brand new ones and it won't respond at all, but works just fine with an adapter. Is there anything I can do?

That could be any number of things. Broken solder joint on the board where the battery terminals connect, dead batteries, and now that I think about it, if the connection is broken or loose in any way inside the hole where the ac adapter goes, it's not going to work with batteries. It needs that completed circuit regardless if there isn't an ac adapter inserted.

If this is a battery powered CD player,
we are talking mA not amps.....6 x 1.5volt batteries give you 9 volts

It may have a little switch so you can choose to either use it with a battery or with the power supply. If not try taking out the battery and see if it works. If it does not work with the battery taken of then it is the power supply. You can further check if the power supply is putting out voltage with a multimeter if you have one. Note that it might read a a few volts higher than 6 volts which is normal. If it reads less than six volts then it is no good.

I think you must have a good supply of current for the player and maybe you must try with rechargeable batteries. If this wont work the set has a fault in the power supply input regulator wherein the regulator must have a fault. You will need to remove the covers and use a multimeter- if you are familiar- to confirm this regulator. replace and proceed. Can't find battery compartment

Often Located Inside Where The Disk Goes Remove The Disk And The Compartment Will Be Below. Also On Older C.d Walkmans They Are On The Bottom But I'm Sure You Figured That one Out.

Jack is broken on portable CD player

Mystical Chicken, all that needs to be done is to open up your player and re-flow the solder connection where the ac adapter goes. It is a fairly simple task, given you have used a soldering iron before. If not, just send it to me and I'll fix it.

hi try this: take a small flat (watchmaker) screwdriver open the battries cartige an look for the springs that connect and holds the battries shive the screwdriver between the last coil of the spring and extend it (for better connection) check with brand new battries look inside the inlet ac adapter and look for a little silver tab shove the screwdriver inside and make some distance from its position (for better connectin) check with the ac adapter if that didnt worked then check the play button - maybe it got bad connection open the cd player look at the play button - there is rubber between the button and the board clean the connection with borad with some alcohol assemble it all toghter and see if good NO?? sounds like one of those "ghost in the machine" thing GOOD LUCK
