Having the same problem in our office. We get one shorter line on the left and a longer line on the right. Appears that the hammer is hitting between the area it should, so no letter is printing, just the edge of each piece on the font wheel.

The hammer has two vertical pieces at the front, meant to strike the print wheel.
Do you have a font wheel in it?

SOURCE: Hello! My typewriter types two vertical

The spoke on yuor printwheel is probably bent or broken. A new P/W would be best but if it is bent you may be able to align it.

It sometimes types the letter s,t,and sometimes it replaces them with two vertical lines.

Most likely one or more of the spokes is bent on the print wheel. Remove the wheel and turn it by hand you can usually straighten them. The vertical lines are from the face of the hammer when it misses the letter.

Olympia Startype 3 occasionally types double vertical line and spacing is changing between letters

Check the printwheel for any broken or bent spokes. vertical lines means the wheel is between letters so either a problem with printwheel or something preventing wheel from turning normally.

I cannot type the @ sign on my typewriter

If it types nothing or vertical lines you probably need a pwintwheel, if it is typing a different letter you may be in KBII.

When I type some of the letters are appearing with double lines. what is wrong?

If you are getting to small vertical lines instead of the character then the printwheel might be bad. All the spokes on the printwheel should be evenly spaced and not bent or deformed.

Different letter appears from the one i've typed

Sounds like the wheel is out of alignment. I had this problem with the one I recently purchased for my daughter. Release the tension on the ribbon and head. Pull the wheel cartridge out and line up the letters. Put the wheel back and reapply tension. Repeat until it is aligned. Took me a couple tries to get it working, but its working and seems to be stable.
