Posted this question re replacing the felt on the dryer (causing stains)

I'm not very adept with hardware repair. I can probably get the felt (parts center?), but how do you get it out and put the new strip in?

thanks much,
Darlene

    thanks,

You pretty much need to take the dryer all the way apart in order to get to replace the felt.  I pulled the drum out and took my time cleaning off all the old felt and glue residue before gluing the new felt guides on and putting the dryer back together.  I found details and parts to order at repairclinic.com

Go to repairclinic.com and type in the model number and it will give you step by step instructions.  it involves taking the top off in order to take the front off.  That website is what I used and i had no problems what so ever.

Whirlpool model 110.88752792 dryer runs but does not heat

Concerning the Kenmore 11088752792 model where the dryer spins but does not heat. I had that problem a few years ago with the same model.

I replaced the fuse (part No. 3399849 about $10.00) and the thermostat (part no 3398128 about $25.00). Dryer worked fine the first try.

FYI. Today, I'm searching for what makes the dryer squeak when I came across your issue (though 6 months since you posted, but I figure there are other Kenmore stack-able owners out there searching for a fix). I haven't taken the dryer apart yet but have ordered the dryer belt, rollers, pulley (a package deal with RepairClinic) and the felt bearing/seal. May as well do a full replacement of the likely components that are causing the squeaks and not spend any more time going through trial and error repairs.

If you haven't already, the dogs on your agitator are probably due for replacement as well. RepairClinic has an agitator package deal with replacement dogs and seals.

Kenmore Elite HE3 washer or dryer leaving brown stains on whites

It appears your felt drum seal adhesive has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Our whites are coming out with grease stains on them

Hi,

The stains if coming from the washer is going to be most likely the to much use of fabric softner, Most of the time it comes from the dryer where the felt seals are wearing thin and pinching the clothes between the drum and the bulkead making these marks, you sill need to verify which one is causing the problem...

I have seen many times, specially if your machine is more than 5 years old, it might be due to transmission Leak which is highly unlikely.

If that's the case, time to change the washer. As the part itself would be around 150 bucks.

The total would be around 300 bucks.

Let me know, if you need further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using

Black stains sticking to white clothes on washing

If your clothes get marked or torn in your dryer, check these:

Rollers
Rear seal
Front glides
Front seal
Rollers Your dryer may use rollers, or wheels, to support the rear of the clothes drum. When these are worn out, they may cause the clothes drum to drop down slightly, which can pinch the clothes between the top of the clothes drum and the rear of the dryer interior. When the rollers wear out, you need to replace the whole set.

Rear seal Your dryer may have a felt-like seal at the rear of the drum. If this seal is worn, torn, or missing, clothes can get caught and torn in the space between the clothes drum and the rear of the dryer interior. When the rear seal wears out, you need to replace it.

Front glides Your dryer probably uses nylon or plastic glides at the front of the clothes drum for support. When these are worn out, they may cause the clothes drum to drop down slightly, which can pinch the clothes between the top of the clothes drum and the front of the dryer interior. When the glides wear out, you need to replace them as a set.

Front seal Many dryers have a felt-like seal at the front of the drum. If this seal is worn, torn, or missing, the clothes in the dryer may get caught and torn in the space between the clothes drum and the front of the dryer interior. When the seal wears out, you need to replace it.

with the exeption of something you mistakenly left in your clothing and wound up in the washer, not likely stains are from there , most of the time they do come from the dryer, try grabbin an old white rag nad runnig it around hte fron of hte dryer drum and then tyr the rear where the drum meets the back bulkhead. usually leavs brownish streks smome what curved 2-3 inches log. its from hte felt hte supposed to seal the drum. its either wearing thin, or a glide has worn away causing the issue

Kenmore Washer/Dryer Combo purchased in late 2000

Call a local repair tech. I know one in Milwaukee :)

Seriously, your machine needs some possibly expensive repairs beyond a novice's skills. The dryer has a felt bearing around the front of the drum that is probably worn out. Check on the rear bearing and the belt at the same time. The washer may need a new transmission, belt, tub seal, and spin bearing. That's an involved repair. Expect to pay extra for labor, but the total bill should be less than the $800 - $1400 for a new machine.

Frigidaire crown series dryer

The back of the drum has a hub (a flat steel piece with a shaft and ball) which allows the drum to turn. That ball rides in a plastic "cradle". Unfortunately on the crown series...if the ball and cradle are not greased regularly, the plastic wears. This allows the drum to "sag". The front end of the drum is lower than the back. You can confirm this by running your finger around the front of the drum. You'll notice that the top of the drum is almost flush with the body of the dryer and the bottom of the drum is 3/4 of an inch lower that the the body. This allows clothes to slip into the gap at the bottom and then they are spen to the top pof the drum were the lodge between the body and the top of the drum. The turning drum burns the clothing. Replace the plastic piece that the hub rides in.

Oil Like Stains on dark cotton Clothes - Whirlpool duet

Problem Solved !!!
Ok, I had to stop and tell everyone about my latest experience. When we moved here we bought the nice Whirlpool front load washer and dryer set. I Love them....still don't understand how my clothes get clean with so little water, but love them. ..................That is until lately. I was really upset about a total of 4 white blouses that looked to have some kind of light splattered stains on them after washing. I would try to wash them again with a stain remover sprayed or scrubbed on the spots, but they wouldn't come clean. I gave up and considered the blouses ruined. I told William what was happening and he called the repair man out because he thought it might be some kind of part in the machine that was leaking oil onto the clothes when they were washing. The guy came out and told William that there wasn't anything that could go into the washer tub and get onto the clothes. He then looked around in the washer and at the little detergent dispenser drawer. He suggested that we use 1 cup of Clorox and 1/4 cup of dish washer detergent (cascade with dawn degreaser crystals) on a hot to medium water temperature and turn it on a complete wash cycle to make sure that we didn't have mold and mildew setting up in our machine. After he left, I proceeded to do what he told us. I though.....the blouses are probably ruined anyway. I had tried to get out all the spots to no avail, so what the heck......I threw them into the mix too! Would you believe they came out clean, very bright white (instead of yellowed or dingy from continued wear) and the washer smells as sweet as it did when it was new. Why didn't they tell me about this when I bought it ??????????? I plan on putting the detergent mix in the washer every couple of months and throwing in all the whites that I can find to take advantage of the cleaning effect on the whites. (I thought that maybe some of you had gotten stains on white clothes that you would like to get out too)

Black stains on Laundry from a front load washer.

bob, if your model starts with 417. this is a mother of all jobs. The black marks are coming from the rear bearing assy. in the tub. I just changed one out and it is misery. I don't believe the boot is causing the black marks. When I tore this one apart I found the tub, tub to drain pump hose, pump itself, contaminated with this black crap. Replaced them all. The tub and bearing comes as one piece and it is no fun to put in. The whole washer has to come apart to do this job and it requires two men to do it. The boot (bellow)itself is a pain to install. You might want to check with Sears and see if this is covered under the 5 year warrany on the bearing and tub, parts only, if not, it's not worth the time or money..Catriver..post back.
