Unit will not turn on when on/off button is pushed

The area under the scanner cover gets warm which probably would indicate that the unit is getting power but the led or function lights do not come on.
It acts like it might have a malfunctioning on/off push switch. I don't know where to get service in Akron OH. I bought the unit at Staples probably three years ago but they don't service the equipment. Please advise
