Problem for ViewSonic NextVision Media Center M2000 PC Desktop

Media center shuts down on its own when using my tv

MCE should never just shut down during a recording. What is the shutdown
message are you seeing?  Are you running MCE in full screen or in a window?

Change the bios settings for the fan to off.  That means that the fan
will run all of the time at full speed.  Then the unit will not get
hot and do an automatic thermal shutdown.  It took months of
inneffective viewsonic support (if you can call it that) and I tried
this on my own and it works.

This a a known problem with all m2000 & m2100 machines, they have no fix for
it, I was told by another user that it goes back to the wireless keyboard but
by removing it even to another room won't solve the problem.
I turned the power button off on mine to prevent this-go to the screen
savers and select power option at bottom-click advanced and you have that
option.
Not a preferred solution but it works.

I though about the IR - how would I reduce/stop the interference (without
making remote useless)?  Even at night w/ lights off this happens.

I have removed the batteries from keyboard and remote and this still happens.

I have never used this computer for anything but tv (no downloads other then
guide and windows updates and no program installs).  I will try installing
Norton tomorrow and see if it can find any worm/virus.

thanks for your help,
Eugene

The big clue here is "Viewsonic".  Tons and tons of people have reported
similar problems in this forum if I recall.  I don't know what if any the
resolution was, but it's more than likely a hardware issue.

If I am currently recording a program then I see a pop up screen with the 4
choices (shutdown, restart, logoff, cancel).  If I am not recording (just
watching previous recorded) show just shutdown with no warning.  Sometimes I
also notice that a random program (calculator or explorer) is launched while
watching a show.

I'd say your computer is infected with a virus or worm. Try using a virus
scanner with the latest virus signatures on your computer. If you're able
to clean the machine (or, in fact, if you had to wipe it and reinstall it
completely), make absolutely sure you install Service Pack 2 to reduce the
risk of future infections.

Regards,??

Couple of thoughts,

1) You are encountering IR interference  (Plasma's, Flourescent Lights,
Sunlight) causing random keys to be inputted.

2) Your wireless keyboard is acting up

3) Your system has a virus or spyware which is causing havoc.
