One beep, quick pause, then constant series of beeps. Memory, cpu, power supply replaced. Shows the Asus boot P4B533 graphic on screen while error beeps. I get the proper related error beeps if memory, agp graphics card, even cpu pulled (voice announcement "no Cpu"). Tested stripped down, with only floppy drive connected (even tried it without floppy drive). Sounds like MB? If so where can I get a replacement P4B533-E/Raid/lan/audio/1394firewire? Must have that one!

Gigabyte doesn't list 3 long beeps as an error code, so I'm not sure if you're actually getting 3 short beeps or maybe 1 long and 2 short or... But, for reference, Gigabyte's error code list is as follows (depending on whether you have an AWARD BIOS or an AMI):

What motherboard do you have? If you don't know, provice make and model of your system and maybe we can find out that way. Is it one long beep? Are there any other beeps and/or a sequence. A good place to start and alot of times, depending on your bios, 1 to 3 beeps means a problem with the RAM(memory). If you have more than 1 stick, you can pull them out, restart and if the beep is the same, you've probably found your culprit. You can then insert one at a time in one of your slots, then restart. If this works, you've found a good stick. If not, try another slot and restart, etc. Try all sticks in all slots.

I think the graphics card has become unseated as the PC does not need a monitor to start up so there would be no beeps; Here is a list of beep codes with there meanings.

To make sure it isn't anything else, pull all cards, and drive cables from the board so the only thing left connected is the power connectors to the motherboard, the speaker, and the power button. Pull all the ram cards.

Now power up the computer. If you hear a series of beeps then the computer recognizes there is no ram on the board. At this point I would take the power supply out and have it tested. If you do not hear a series of beeps I would still have the power supply tested as it could be the 12v is fine but the 5 and 3.3 volt side is bad.

If power supply tests good then I would replace both the motherboard and processor. You take a risk of burning a new processor if it's the motherboard causing the problems.

1 or 2 beeps is normal when turning on, for most mobo's. Check the motherboard owners manual for beep errors, for example 3 beeps might be a graphics card error, 4 keyboard error, or CPU or memory. it's in the manual for the specific motherboard. You can get it from the manufacturer's website. I can not supply a link to get you the online manual because you didn't specify what kind of motherboard you are using. Does it still boot? Do you see the BIOS on screen? Any error messages? When you press the power button your computer normally should beep once or twice and then performs a POST... Power-On-Self-Test. and this is when you get any error beeps. It could be something simple like forgot to hook up the monitor, to CPU or memory is loose, or memory is not compatible if you upgraded the memory.

If the computer is actually functioning and the computer beeps continuously, then there is a problem with a voltage on the power supply being incorrect or the CPU overheating. IMMEDIATELY go into the BIOS and check CPU temperature, fan speed and voltages

BIOS Beep Codes

Annoying isn't it? You have built your computer you switch it on and then nothing happens except a few beeps from the PC speaker. Frustration sets in as you try to figure out what is wrong with it. If you didn't already know the computer has already told you the problem. It can't speak of course but it can direct you to the problem. Its all in the beeps. The BIOS can recognise when the problem occurs and sends a signal out to send a certain amount of beeps through the speaker. These beeps then tell you the location of the problem.

Unfortunately not all the BIOS' use the same codes as each other. Two of the main BIOS manufactures AMI and Award (now Phoenix) have different codes for there errors.

With the first 3 beep codes, its well worth re-seating the memory just to make sure that it's in correctly. 8 Beeps is probably the most common in my experience. Can be caused by a badly seated Graphics card. If you have re-seated it then check with another Graphics card in the board.

Always check for loose components before sending the board back as this is the main cause of errors on the POST.



Award BIOS

Award states that they now only use one beep from there BIOS. This beep is one long beep and then two short beeps. This indicates a graphics card problem. Any other beeps should be treated as a RAM problem first and then the board sent in to be inspected.

The reason that the Award BIOS only uses the beep code for display problems is that it tries to display the error on-screen if at all possible. If the BIOS cannot initiate the display adapter then this causes the BIOS to make the beep code for a display error, which must be corrected before any other errors can be determined. Memory Test fails and hard disk failures etc will all be displayed on screen

IBM BIOS

The IBM BIOS works with Short and Long beeps as well as the Award BIOS. However the IBM one does still have codes to work from.

Phoenix BIOS
The Phoenix BIOS works on a slightly more complicated manor than the others. It does display an error code for you and produce a series of beeps. This BIOS produces its beeps according to the hexadecimal code the error produces. The Phoenix BIOS has many different codes for its possible errors and so many different beep codes. System board errors should be looked at by a specialist, Again always try to re-seat components to ensure they are in correctly. If necessary take all components out except for the RAM CPU and graphics card, then try the system. Re-seating components is the number one fix for getting past the POST screen. One badly seated components can cause the entire system not to function. so pick out your bios and follow the steps above to diagnose .hope this helps

I think that either you have a bad power supply or it is not connected properly. I suppose it could also not be supplying enough power.

Try disconnecting all of the connections to the Motherboard and reconnecting them. Make sure they seat properly. Try a new power supply. You can get a good one from Newegg.com
