Generally no unless you're a certified electrician. It would involve taking apart the bottom section of the Dyson or wherever the cord leads to, and splicing the cable out of the connection end when you open up the Dyson. Easiest solution is really to get it replaced and if you do then ask them to put an extra length cord on it if you are needing it.

How can I access the wiring behind the plastic that connects to the motorized head?

If your model is a DC07 as stated there is not a separate motor that runs the brushroll. The brushroll spins from a belt that comes from the main motor or goes through a clutch assembly with two belts. If it is a ball model and the wires have severed you will need to replace the wire or wires with the proper replacement parts for it to work properly. I would need your model number to determine the proper wat to fix it.

No sucking when the handle is down

Hi Steven, it's Jack at Dyson.

If your machine isn't picking up from the cleaner head, this may be due to a blockage. The filter may also need a wash. To check for any obstructions, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:

In normal use, DC07's filter needs to be washed at least once every 3-6 months, as shown in the video attached. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 12 hours for the filter to dry completely before replacing it.

If you do need any further advice after you've given this a try, please get in touch with us directly. You can reach our experts by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

Best wishes,

Hi There,
Ok so I have made a few videos about what to check when you have issues like this.
THere are 3 possible causes.
1. THe bearings in the brush roller are worn so even though you can turn it by hand the belt cannot.
2. The clutch belts are too stretched and are slipping causing them to heat up and start to melt.
3. The roller on the clutch has melted as a result of the heat from teh belt.
From experience the most likely cause is that the bearings are worn and likely the belts are stretched. I will link a video from our youtube channel watch the one I link and then do a search within the channel for DC07 and you will see the other videos.
You should be able to get away with just replacing the bearings or the belts. I will say that if you have got to the point where you are having issues with the front end I would encourage you to replace the DC07 filters too normally they have a similar lifespan.

I have just replaced the belt on my Dyson DC07 today, hoovered a mat & it broke, when I took it off, it looked as though it had melted & the spindle it attaches too was burning hot, what is the...

Make sure that the brush is turning freely and that there is no thread or lint preventing it from turning. It sounds like it has siezed and this caused the melt down of your belt.

hi from uk the symptoms you described is a classic fault with where power wire has broken within the main cable usually at pint where it enters the vac ? hence wriggling wire temporarily makes contact are you sure the wires in plug are connected into their pins securely ? constant pulling on wire whilst vacuuming does cause this fault also kinking in wire you can diy replace the whole cable and replace with longer length as i usually advise so you can reach further without having to swap sockets ? hope this helps/inspires you ?

Dyson dc05 motor cuts out

Check for either voltage to switch or if your not happy or compettant working on live mains.
Switch meter to ohms ensure vacuum is unpluged from mains follow live wire (brown) from plug to exit point on the back of cable rewinder check for continuity shold be dead short if it is check switch if this is ok move to neutral (blue) wire again check from plug to rear of cable winder.
The neutral then goes off to moter again check for dead short,
I think from experience that you will have A break in either live or neutral in the mains lead going to cable winder.
If it is its realy easy to replace winder they come with lead all ready fitted.
If you need one contact me.
