You can download the Bios file from the following link and extract ROM file to a floppy disk. Insert the disk into FDD and follow instructions.

Hi, you can download the bios file here:

http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=P4V8X-X&p=1&s=15

Please select your windows version.
Select bios and click on global for download.
You have to unzip the file before you install it.

You might have to change the cmos battery out with
a new one:

ghost2233_59.jpg So the bios can remember its settings.
Thats why you get a bad bios checksum.
A reminder flashing the bios with a wrong one WILL destroy the mainboard.

In the disk you burned, the bios can't read a zip file, the file needs to be extracted and as far as I remember you need to use a diskette instead of a cd. but I will look into it now.

You can get the bios from here
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P4V8X-X

Get the 1008 version

its under Bios and 3rd entry, all os version 1008
File is in zip format, needs to be extracted.
the rom file inside needs to be placed in a diskette.
Comment by Ekse, posted on Aug 07, 2008 Diskette or if you can get the bios to read a cd then that is fine also. Comment by Ekse, posted on Aug 07, 2008 if the setup is looking for a file named as
P4V8X-X.rom

it may be required to rename the PV8XX08.rom to P4V8X-X.rom

But im not perfectly sure what you are trying todo or why it is asking for it. il have to look into this more. Comment by Ekse, posted on Aug 07, 2008 As I suspected, BestDarnGood linked us the manual and the correct page about the problem. it confirms that the file has to be renamed and placed in a floppy.

Thanks BDG

Hi, you can download a manual here:

http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=P4V8X-X&p=1&s=15

Please select your operating system.
Select manual and click on global for download.
Unzip the file before you can read it.

Maybe its just a setting in the bios that does that.

Bios recovery Asus motherboard P4V8X_X

Did you run the utlity to put the firmware onto a floppy disc or cd so that it can boot up on the disc to install it?

The utility is available for download in the same section that you got the firmware update from.

When I started my pc i got the message " bad bios checksum. starting bios recovery. as I no longer have my Asus P4V8X-X support cd. I went to the asus website and downloaded the latest bios for this...

Instead of updating your bios try removing the bios battery and then wait for about 5 mins then plug it back in to reset it. Most often that fixes the problem faster and easier.

This problem could be caused by a near flat BIOS battery. Replace the BIOS battery and go into the BIOS configuration and set the Date and Time etc.

No power, no beeps, blank screen

Hi adonis_dion,

There could be many things that could stop the board from turning on, Determining if it works is like detective work. What I do, is take everything off the board to start. Then add the minimum to start a board to see if it will start. That's one drive (cd or otherwise) the CPU, and one bank of memory. (that's not a required eliminate, but it helps avoid beep codes) Also, make sure you have your pin's set on the board absolutely correct, or that could be your problem to begin with. Now, you should get the power supply on, and the cpu. If those don't power up, it's then either one of the five elements. The CPU, Power supply, Ram, Drive, or the motherboard. The next step is to replace each one of the first four to see if you get any change. If no change, then I usually get another board that I can test the first four, and make sure that they work. After that, then I say you have a DOA Board

Good Luck
