Hi
Ethernet cables must be placed the right way round. Make sure that you are using the ethernet socket - it looks like this.

If it is an older computer you may not have an ethernet port. It is possible to install one - you will need to buy the necessary hardware.

It could also be that your ethernet cable is broken, or that you have the wrong cable. You can buy a new one from amazon.

Hope this helps
Philip

No this seems to be a problem on dells, you can have a new cord but the socket appears to be about 1/16' deeper causing them to not clip into place.

I take it you mean your ethernet (network) card has stopped working? This is a common fault, especially with ports that are built into the motherboard. I suggest you buy and fit a PCI plug in network card--- not expensive and hook your ethernet cable to that.
Modern Windows operating systems should have no problem detecting the new card and installing a driver automatically.
Be aware that if you do this you may have to contact Microsoft to re-activate your Windows, as the MAC address you are using will have changed.

This was bought at an estate sale and I'm trying to find out where to connect the ethernet cable to set her up on qwest home internet. Either I'm nuts or the ethernet cable included with the set up...

the two lines in the back, if they are too small for the ethernet cable, are telephone jacks for a phone modem. look and see if there is a "line in" and "line out" labeled, or a picture of a telephone next to one of the jacks- if so, then this is a phone modem card, and not an ethernet card. ethernet cards ONLY have one jack.

I opened my case for my computer to fix a loose piece and i pulled out my ethernetlink10/100 pci and i was wondering if u could describe where to plug it back in, there is a cord i dont know where to plug...

If you mean the ethernet cable that plugs into the back of the computer, please look at the photo below.  490d71a.jpg
the similar but slightly smaller modem socket may be also present, but don't worry as the ethernet cable won't fit as the sock is smaller.

Internet cable won't plug into phone jack on the back of the pc

on the rear of the pc you may have 2 plug slots, one for the nodem and one for the lan (ethernet cable)
modem port looks like this:e29bde8.jpg

lan (ethernet ports) look like this:ca0da14.jpg

you will notice that the modem is smaller that the ethernet port, look for port that the ethernet cable fits in because you have the right lead because your modem is cable not ADSL

hope this hepls

Computer won't turn on unless I unplug the Ethernet Cable

Is the Ethernet built-in on the system board? I would go to BIOS (hit F2 while booting the PC) and disable the ethernet. then restart the PC. See if it stays on with or without the Ethernet cable plugged in. If it does. The built-in Ethernet circuit is the problem. I would buy a Ethernet adapter ($20).and install it. and leave the built-in ethernet disabled.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
