Question about Panasonic DMR-EH50 DVD Recorder

I have a Panasonic DMR-EH55S that will no longer recognize any cdr that I put it into it. The hard drive still records, but I cannot burn anything off of it. Any ideas?

    My DMR-EH55 stopped recording while recording at fast speed, and will not recognize any disc in the drive. The only option for me was to buy a Toshiba DVD recorder and hook it up on line one, this way I still use my HDD to edit and record to an 80.00 dollar Toshiba recorder, it's not the same but it works for me now. The TV guide has also stopped updating I believe the cable company is the culprit for that one.

    My EH-55 did exactly the same, except for the TV Guide witch still work very well.

How do I stop my Panasonic DMR-EH75V DVD Recorder from automatically turnig itself off after 75 seconds?


It could be overheating.. Is it fairly consistent at 75 seconds? To test put the unit in the fridge for 30 minutes then quickly connect it up and test. If it is longer then 75 seconds then something is getting to hot. I've put hard drives (especially laptop ones) in the freezer if I need to copy off data but it clicks/stops working at room temp.

L.S. How to reset Panasonic DMR-EH55 DVD Recorder / HDD Recorder to factory settings?


You can either go into menu (pressing 'FUNCTIONS' button on remote) and look for 'RESTORE DEFAULT SETTINGS' or similar heading, or you can (while unit is on) on the front of the unit (not the remote) press CH UP and CH DOWN buttons together for 5 seconds - the unit will switch to standby. Give either one a try. (refer to page 60 onwards in your user manual - these pages detail 'settings').

You can probably fix this issue by updating the firmware and doing a system reset. First, download the latest firmware and burn it to a CD. You can download it from here: http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-electronics/support/Video/DVD-Recorders-Players/DVD-Recorders/Drivers-Downloads/model.DMR-EZ28K.D#ts

Now, power the unit down, press Skip/Rev + Time Slip + Open/Close for 5 seconds. The CDR should be in the disc drive as you do this. This will install the new firmware and re-initialize the system settings.

My dmr-eh55s will no longer transfer from the hard drive to the DVD in the high speed mode. It will in low speed mode (real time).


It sounds like the DVD-RAM drive is about dead. Panasonic did not make them to be very durable.

Panasonic sells replacements at a high cost.

Replacement drives may work from used models including:
DMR-ES15
DMR-ES25
DMR-ES45
DMR-ES46

What a story ! Clean your laser eye with Rubbing Alcohol and a Q-Tip. Down updates to your Recorder from Panasonics Website., and install in your Recorder. Order your replacement parts from Panasonic but I do doubt you will need them.

Processor burned up - how to get programs off the hard drive?


Got "Premium" solution - could not get stuff off the hard drive, but not because of lack of help. Vortash was very helpful and patient. We are just unable to resolve the problem. We believe the information on the hard drive is proprietary and so Panasonic may have to do it for us.

Panasonic DMR-EH55 Ram Drive Problem


Do you mean you want to replace the hard drive in the unit? If so, I have one of these units and I installed a new PATA hard drive and then "prepared" it with a firmware update that is available from Panasonic's website. I tried to increase the capacity by installing a 500GB hard drive, and also a 300GB hard drive, but no matter what size I put in, after I initialized the new hard drive with the firmware disc I always only had 92 hours available to me. In fact there was never anything wrong with my unit, I was only trying to increase the capacity for recording - which I was never able to do. I did find that another 200GB hard drive I tried didn't actually work for some unknown reason, but the 500GB, the original 200GB and a 300GB hard drive worked no problem every time I swapped them around. Panasonic DMR-E80H Change Disc Error


If you haven't done so, try downloading the firmware update from their support site. Burn the update file to a cd-rom.

I have had numerous times where my unit recovered and I had to format the hard drive(losing all of my shows), but since I did the update this has not happened to me again.
