Ink ribbon was chewed up in my son snap lab and resulted in paper jam. I cleared the jam and repaired the ink ribbon and it still is reading that error. How can I fix this?

Happend twice to me. What sometimes happens is that the paper roll was not changed at the time the ink was. Therefore the paper roll was allowed to remain in the printer until the very last sheet. On the last sheet there is a sticker that says paper out. (stupid idea) This sticker makes the last sheet of paper too thick to fit through the last paper guide / feed. Because of this, the ink film breaks and that specific error message is displayed until that last piece of 4x6 is pulled from the inside top paper feed. Clear that out, and all is good.. Change the paper every time u change the ink.
You must open up the front where the roll goes. Lay the printer back, and look up top where the paper ejects. you should see some of the paper in the feed. Pull that out with a tweezers.

Beware. I sent my printer to Sony and they tried to get me for a new cutter and thermal head. Close to $500. I then realized the problem because it happened on another unit I own. I told them to ship it back unrepaired and I fixed it myself.
Hope this helps

My Royal Alpha 9170 is feeding to quickly, resulting in a paper and ribbon jam and resulting in a printer error.

hi
  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper.
  3. Also open the back cover of the printer if this model has one.
  4. Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge.
  5. If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it away from light/ sun light to avoid damaging it.
  6. If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by holding it with both hands and pulling firmly. The goal is to keep the paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling out the middle piece first to loosen the jam.
  7. If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper. Don't force anything, though. Do this step especially if the jam message comes up repeatedly without any obvious paper jam, there may be a small tear of paper inside.
  8. Ones the printer is free of paper Replace the toner or ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the printer back on.
  9. If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.
  10. see alternative if the problem is still not solved

Epsom stylus sx610fw insists there is a paper jam - none to see, but will chew up ordinary paper when working. is there any way to open it up more to look for torn paper that could be registering as a

Yes it can be repaired, but it will most likely take a sensor to do it, this is a common issue. I think the way it works is it senses the force required to turn the roller, if the sensor or the chip it sends its signal to is defective a false paper jam is triggered and the printer stops printing. The problem here is with printers being so cheap to buy why not just replace it. The last time i got a printer it was free with the rebate, and it was a Canon "all in one" that was far better than the HP it replaced. Your decision.

Chews up paper while printing then jams paper.

Top loader or bottom loader? Ink-jet, dot-matrix or Laser? All have different reasons. Most common are ink-jets. Most common are top loaders. Most common cause is cheap paper. Buy ink-jet paper. Most people buy cheap copy paper (20#). Buy a good 25# or heavier paper to keep that from happening (especially w/ top loaders). People always worry about that extra dollar or two for paper, but it take an average of 10ml of ink to print 300 pages. That's 1 cartridge ($10 to $20 dollars) for less than 1 package of paper ($3 to $5).

Ink cartridge carrier jam

Once it jams on the left turn off the machine. usually my lights are all red at that point, one is blinking the other two are solid red. open the cover. shine a flashlight in there, you will see a clear or light grey plastic ribbon that runs from the left to the right. it is the top most thing. Very carefully, clean it with a paper towel and a little water. or a kleenex. it should be almost clear.
after done, move the cartridge head to the right without turning on the printer. once again, clean the clear plastic ribbon where the cartridge head was located. finally turn on the printer, when it stops initializing, click the paper feed button, if you were successful, you won't see it jam into the left side.
if not, try repeating again. I think the optical head could also have some junk on it, and will deposit it back on the clear grey plastic strip.

the clear strip passes through the cartridge head. I'm told it is called an encoder strip and the optical head reads the strip to know it's position.

when that strip is dirty or covered with some ink spots, the print/cartridge head, can't read it and slams into the side the the printer.

this happened to my c80 at least 3 times now in seven years.

Clear Ribbon

Well, the "ribbon" that was just pulled was the "RULER" it is the guide of the printhead... as you will look closely there are tiny vertical lines to it and as long as the clear ribbon thing is not broken. Putting it back, you will have to open the printer and insert that ribbon back to the back of the printhead and back to their proper holders. GOOD LUCK.

Pls. rate us properly. Thanks.

Canon s520

The number of orange flashes between green flashes indicates the type of error, as outlined below. Check the cause and take the appropriate action. Two flashes: Out of paper, paper jam or paper feed error Replace the paper correctly and press the RESUME/CANCEL button. If paper has jammed in the printer, clear the jam and press the RESUME/CANCEL button. Three flashes: Paper jam If paper has jammed in the printer, clear the jam, replace the paper in the printer correctly and press the RESUME/CANCEL button. Four flashes: Empty ink tank One of the ink tanks is empty. Replace it. If all of the above won't help, unplug the printer from the power cable, wait a while, and plug in. If that didn't fix you, I guess it's time to get in touch with canon, or a repair lab you trust. Good luck
