Question about Cooktops

1 Answer

Two burners wont ignite

So two of the burners won't ignite, and they're both on the right side.
there is gas coming out of all of them, (there are 5 burners).

i can light all of them with a match,
and i can light the ones on the left, and the one on the middle with the spark.

there doesn't appear to be a spark on the burners to the right.
i've cleaned all the holes with a pin.

its a whirlpool GHH95 kitchen cooktop, i got about 5 years ago.

whenever i try to light a burner, only the burners in the middle and the left hand side spark.

    thanks for your input.

i can hear the spark when i try and light the ones on the right side, however i cannot see a spark coming from the right side.

ie. whenever i press down for any hob to spark, the hobs on the left and the middle will spark, however the ones on the right side won't.

i can hear a click click though, presumably coming from the left and the middle hobs.

  • j4m35k4n9 Jul 19, 2008

yep no spark on the right hand side.

im not sure what you mean by the clicking,

i can hear it click on all the hobs.

how would i go about checking the ignitor?

where would i get parts for it?

  • j4m35k4n9 Jul 19, 2008

    GHH95 is the model number.

    its about 5 years old.

it might of been called a different model in the states (im from sydney, australia)

i'll try and contact customer support here in australia on monday, however customer service here is generally appallling.

  • j4m35k4n9 Jul 19, 2008

it's a rectangular cooktop, GHH95 gas, its got a 'small, medium, large, wok and oblong/multi-use burners.

  • j4m35k4n9 Jul 19, 2008

thanks eddie, i really appreciate your support.

btw upon looking at the product brochure, it said under product information 'Westinghouse appliances are manufactured by Electrolux Home Products Pty Ltd'.

so does that mean its actually a electrolux cooktop, and it was just brand-stamped?

the design of other electrolux cooktops are similar, ie. the controls being on the right hand side of the gas cook tops.

okay really really sorry, i feel terrible.

its actually a westinghouse and not a whirlpool.

Sounds like the electric sending unit for the right burners is not working. Do you hear the cliking noise on the right side when you turn the knob to LITE? If not then you need to replace the electric sending unit, they are located under the knobs, they are a smal square box that goes on the switch valve rod, they have tow wires on the side, just unplug and lift, and look for greasse or anything that might interrup contact, you might be able to use the same ones, or just replace with new ones....Good Luck

Try to get a visual on the spark itself on the right side igniter when it's clicking. If you dont see the spark but you do hear the clicking on the right ignitor, then the sending unit is good and the ignitor needs to be checked.

2 burners wont ignite

Hello there:
A burner doesn't work The most common problem for gas surface burners is that they get gas but don't light. This is generally caused by dirt or grease splatters on the burner itself. Residential-grade range/stove burners are round and have small holes around their perimeter to allow gas to flow out and create a round flame. The gas coming from these holes is often ignited by a small vertical row of holes on the side of the burner. If these vertical holes are clogged or obstructed, the gas can't ignite. The solution is to clean the burners thoroughly. Use a toothpick to clear the small vertical holes, then allow the burner to dry completely and try lighting it again. If it doesn't light immediately, either repeat the procedure or call a qualified appliance repair technician.

The igniter on the right front burner of my GE Gas cooktop does not work....I must use a lighter or match to ignite....What can I do? There is no clicking sound when I turn on the burner?

all burner igniters work at the same time - you may have a faulty electronic spark unit. change the spark unit. go to repair clinic dot come for the unit. also would be wise to check the ingniter start switch on the gas burner control knob

I cleaned the gas top and the two left side burners do not ignite

Take the burners out, then take a needle and stick in the small hole where the gas comes thru.

It's either a bad spark module or switch.

I would try cleaning the burners. You can purchase cleaning brushes made specifically for this purpose and they work like a charm.

1 burner wont stop clicking on miele cooktop km 344

We have an older Thermador Gas Cooktop type range. It was working fine until the cleaning crew came in, then all the burner igniters were clicking when turning on a single burner. I solved the problem by cleaning off the igniters. I first of course unplugged the power. Then I took a small wire telcom pic tool to scrape the white and brown deposits from the sides of the igniters. You could probably use something else similiar to do the scraping. I noticed a shiny surface underneath. I then went ahead and scraped and brushed clean the mating surface where the spark travels. I then vacuumed up the mess. My burners all worked great after this. Hope this helps!
