MULTIPLIER SET @ 6X INSTEAD OF 9X?

HI
RAN CPU-Z, INTEL’S UTILITY I.D, THEY SAY MY INTEL DUAL CORE 1.5 GHZ [ CODE NAME, MEROM] IS RUNNING @ 997MHZ INSTEAD OF 1497 OR SO. THEY SHOW THE MULTIPLIER IS SET @ 6X BUS SPEED IS 166MHZ. MULTIPLY THOSE TWO & YOU GET 997MHZ. INTEL SAYS THE MULTIPLIER IS SUPPOSE TO RUN @ 9X THE 166 BUS SPEED TO ACHIEVE THE 1500MHZ.

SONY SUPPORT KEPT MAKING UP EXCUSES WHY IT WASN’T RUNNING @ 1.5GHZ. HE SAID BASICALLY IT THROTTLES DOWN UNTIL MORE POWER IS NEEDED. I NEVER READ THIS ANYWHERE EXCEPT ON NEWER PENRYN-BASED INTEL CPU’S THEY THROTTLE DOWN THRU SOME MANAGEMENT SYSTEM. BUT THIS IS A 1ST GENERATION DUAL-CORE. ANYWAY I DID WHAT HE SUGGESTED & RAN A DVD + A GAME & OPENED UP S OME OTHER PROGRAMS TO OVERLOAD THE CPU & EVEN THEN IT STAYED SHOWING 997 MHZ. I’M ALMOST SURE THE GUY WAS LOST & MAKING UP THINGS AS HE WENT ALONG.

HOW DO I ACCESS THE BIOS TO CHANGE THE MULTIPLIER SETTING? PLEASE HELP I FEEL LIKE I’VE BEEN RIPPED OFF/ SWINDLED OUT OF $700 WHOEVER HEARD OF A 997MHZ DUAL – CORE ?

Ok first of all can I have the model of the unit? secondly usually when you first boot up the computer you can hit delete to enter the bios setup. Now unfortunately you have to hope that the multiplier is in the bios. Sometimes it is a jumper located on the actual motherboard. Once I get your model number I can assist you further. Try that first once in the bios look around to see what you can find. Also you can change it in power management in control panel. But they are probably correct most laptops do bump up the speed automatically. This helps to conserve power. Which you would want with your laptop.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Lee

Want to upgrade my HP TouchSmart IQ504 Desktop PC 2.0GHz processor for a 3.1 ghz ?

First, have you ever changed/upgraded a CPU? It take quite a bit of research to upgrage. If you look at this spec of the Mobo your options are very limited, The Mobo only supports 2 different type Processors, 1, Core 2 Duo (Merom); http://ark.intel.com/products/codename/2683/Merom , 2 Core 2 Duo (Penryn): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penryn_(microprocessor) If you have a 64bit OS consider a memory upgrade, if you haven't already. What type of dual core processor can I use for my dc7600?

The motherboard for the dc7600 has an Intel LGA775 processor socket. However, not all LGA775 processors are compatible with the motherboard. For the small form factor, the following CPUs are supported: Intel Celeron D Processors:
Intel Celeron D 331 Processor (2.66-GHz, 256K L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB) , Intel Celeron D 336 Processor (2.80-GHz, 256K L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB) , Intel Celeron D 346 Processor (3.06-GHz, 256K L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB)
Intel Pentium 4 Processors with HT Technology:
Intel Pentium 4 521 Processor (2.8-GHz, 1-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB) , Intel Pentium 4 524 Processor (3.06-GHz, 1-MB L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB) , Intel Pentium 4 541 Processor (3.2-GHz, 1-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 620 Processor (2.8-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 630 Processor (3.0-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 631 Processor (3.0-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 640 Processor (3.2-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 641 Processor (3.2-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 650 Processor (3.4-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 651 Processor (3.4-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium 4 661 Processor (3.6-GHz, 2-MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB) or
Intel Pentium D Dual Core Processors:
Intel Pentium D 805 Dual Core Processor (2.66-GHz, 2x1MB L2 cache, 533-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 820 Dual Core Processor (2.8-GHz, 2x1MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 915 Dual Core Processor (2.8-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 925 Dual Core Processor (3.0-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 930 Dual Core Processor (3.0-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 940 Dual Core Processor (3.2-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 945 Dual Core Processor (3.4-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800-MHz FSB), Intel Pentium D 950 Dual Core Processor (3.4-GHz, 2x2MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)

Unfortunately, these are old processors and I don't see any available new. Newegg.com lists a couple available as refurbished. You may be better off getting a new computer with either a Intel I3 or current AMD processor.

I wish that I had better news for you.

(do not attempt to use a CPU that your motherboard doesn't support. It probably won't boot.)

Can i up grade my single core cpu pen4 550 3,4GHz to a Quad core or dual core either one would help

Depends on the socket type.. Socket 423 and 478 do not support core duo or quad core processor types. However, if you have LGA 775 (aka socket T) your motherboard will support the following:
Intel Pentium 4 (2.60 - 3.80 GHz)
Intel Celeron D (2.53 - 3.60 GHz )
Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition (3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Intel Pentium D (2.66 - 3.60 GHz)
Pentium Extreme Edition (3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Pentium Dual-Core (1.40 - 3.33 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Duo (1.60 - 3.33 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Extreme (2.66 - 3.20 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Quad (2.33 - 3.00 GHz)
Intel Xeon (1.86-3.40 GHz)
Intel Celeron (1.60 - 2.40 GHz)

Defective sony/intel cpu?

Sony tech support, refused 2 show me how 2 reset the multiplier.apparently their firmware has a multiplier of 6x locked in.nowhere in the bios/cmos can it be changed.intel says its suppose to be a 9x multiplier 2 achieve the 1500mhz.why would sony throttle down a 1.5ghz rig to 997mhz?they cpu must be defective & to stop it from blowing up on people they set the multiplier @ 6x.ok fine but don’t advertise it as a 1500mhz rig & make consumers think that’s the speed they’ll b getting.how many other u.s.citizens r unaware that they’ve been swindled/cheated/misled?what about a recall? What about some legal action against them?i’ve spent hours & hours e-mailing them & making phonecalls & they’re intent on acting as if they’ve done nothing wrong.

Difference b/w Core to duo and daul core

Core 2 Duo is a Brand name by intel to identify his class of Dual core CPU

a Dual core CPU is basically two CPU in one package, which dramatically improves performance over previous architectures.

Pentium Dual Core is another brand name by Intel to identify his new entry level CPU offer.Basically Pentium dual-core are similar to Core 2 Duos except they(pentiums) are slower and cheaper.
they both are dual core CPUs.
I would prefer a core 2 Duo having to choose a laptop because of better performance, but the prize is different for the two solutions.

There really is no difference, there are differences in the E numbers though. Those are specificallt about it's GHz's, it L1 and L2 cache.

Though Intel Core 2 Duo is the same as Intel Dual Core. It's just a different name. This confusion is caused because of Intel changing the names of it's processors series. The Pentium brandname for example is gone. Intel Pentium Dual Core is now called Intel Core 2 Duo.

I hope this answered your question.

Greetings,

DarkNeogen.
