RAN CPU-Z, INTEL’S UTILITY I.D, THEY SAYMYINTELDUAL CORE 1.5 GHZ [ CODE NAME, MEROM] IS RUNNING @997MHZ INSTEAD OF 1497 OR SO. THEY SHOWTHE MULTIPLIER IS SET @ 6X BUS SPEED IS 166MHZ. MULTIPLY THOSE TWO & YOU GET 997MHZ. INTEL SAYS THE MULTIPLIER IS SUPPOSE TO RUN @ 9X THE 166 BUS SPEED TO ACHIEVE THE 1500MHZ.
SONY SUPPORT KEPT MAKING UP EXCUSESWHY ITWASN’TRUNNING@ 1.5GHZ. HESAID BASICALLY ITTHROTTLES DOWNUNTILMOREPOWER ISNEEDED. I NEVER READ THIS ANYWHERE EXCEPT ON NEWERPENRYN-BASED INTEL CPU’S THEY THROTTLE DOWN THRU SOME MANAGEMENT SYSTEM. BUTTHISISA1ST GENERATIONDUAL-CORE. ANYWAYI DID WHAT HE SUGGESTED & RAN A DVD + A GAME & OPENEDUP S OME OTHER PROGRAMS TO OVERLOAD THE CPU &EVENTHEN IT STAYED SHOWING 997 MHZ. I’MALMOSTSURETHEGUYWAS LOST&MAKING UPTHINGSAS HEWENTALONG.
HOW DO I ACCESS THE BIOS TO CHANGE THE MULTIPLIER SETTING? PLEASE HELP I FEEL LIKE I’VE BEENRIPPED OFF/ SWINDLED OUT OF $700 WHOEVER HEARD OF A 997MHZ DUAL – CORE ?

Re: MULTIPLIER SET @ 6X INSTEAD OF 9X?
Ok first of all can I have the model of the unit? secondly usually when you first boot up the computer you can hit delete to enter the bios setup. Now unfortunately you have to hope that the multiplier is in the bios. Sometimes it is a jumper located on the actual motherboard. Once I get your model number I can assist you further. Try that first once in the bios look around to see what you can find. Also you can change it in power management in control panel. But they are probably correct most laptops do bump up the speed automatically. This helps to conserve power. Which you would want with your laptop. Hope this helps. Thanks, Lee

we can use three type of mother board on dual cpu. that are 865 chipset , 915 chipset , 945gz chipset, u can download thease driver from intel . enjoy good luck. plzzzzzzzzzz vote me for increase my rating
Pentuim D is a processor that has 2 x cpu in one and a core 2 duo has 2 cpu's plus 1 smart core bigger cache
you can only upgrade to a E2140 or E2180 processor on that motherboard
OR replace the board with a newer type
If you want to work the actual speed for the processor of a dual core take the speed for example dual core 1.8 x 2.1 =3.78 GHz
Core 2 Duo 1.8 x 2.4 = 4.32 GHz
Sony tech support, refused 2 show me how 2 reset the multiplier.apparently their firmware has a multiplier of 6x locked in.nowhere in the bios/cmos can it be changed.intel says its suppose to be a 9x multiplier 2 achieve the 1500mhz.why would sony throttle down a 1.5ghz rig to 997mhz?they cpu must be defective & to stop it from blowing up on people they set the multiplier @ 6x.ok fine but don’t advertise it as a 1500mhz rig & make consumers think that’s the speed they’ll b getting.how many other u.s.citizens r unaware that they’ve been swindled/cheated/misled?what about a recall? What about some legal action against them?i’ve spent hours & hours e-mailing them & making phonecalls & they’re intent on acting as if they’ve done nothing wrong.
Core 2 Duo is a Brand name by intel to identify his class of Dual core CPU
a Dual core CPU is basically two CPU in one package, which dramatically improves performance over previous architectures.
Pentium Dual Core is another brand name by Intel to identify his new entry level CPU offer.Basically Pentium dual-core are similar to Core 2 Duos except they(pentiums) are slower and cheaper. they both are dual core CPUs. I would prefer a core 2 Duo having to choose a laptop because of better performance, but the prize is different for the two solutions.
There really is no difference, there are differences in the E numbers though. Those are specificallt about it's GHz's, it L1 and L2 cache.
Though Intel Core 2 Duo is the same as Intel Dual Core. It's just a different name. This confusion is caused because of Intel changing the names of it's processors series. The Pentium brandname for example is gone. Intel Pentium Dual Core is now called Intel Core 2 Duo.
