I have the rebel xti and my pictures are hit or miss. most of the time my close up pictures print out the best. I cannot pin point the problem with the other pictures. For example, pictures taken inside my house, of my daughters 3rd grade class, or of a group of people are terrible. They are grainy, and not clear. I have compared recent pictures from this summer taken at our pool using the xti digital and my old AE-1program canon film camera from 20 years ago and the pictures are night and day. The film camera produces vibrant pictures that pop. The colors from the blue tiles and the green grass are amazing. The xti digital pictures are dim, bland coloring and very grainy almost not recognizing faces of people. I have tried all the different settings to see if one works better than the other. I have also set the camera back to where the manufactures had set it a few times and nothing seems to improve the prints. I have also printed these photos at a variety of facilitys to see if that makes a difference. please help!!! jeanne

I am a digital photographer, there could be many things causing this, i'm assuming it is in the camera. once you rest the camera back to defaults, set it at the "most" auto setting you have. go outside, point it at something typical like a tree, car, anything other than the sky or snow or anything black. we need to get a photo from something normal colored to see what the camera is doing. if everything is set to default it will give you a good picture. from your description i'm assuming the photos you have are being shot at very high iso speeds and/or very low shutter speedds which indicates a setting problem. try it and let me know what you find. if you can post the picture here, i might be able to get the data from the photo to help figure this out.

Can CF card pin be repaired on a Canon Rebel? Canon EOS 400D / Rebel XTi Digital Camera with 17-85mm Lens

I assume you mean one of the pins inside the camera body itself? This is quite a common problem and I believe it will have to be dealt with by a Canon Repair Centre. However it is not the end of the camera and is worth having done although I cannot say what the are charging at this time.

Canon Rebel xti Error message "can't read card or card corrupted". I have tried 4 new cards, same result. What next?

Take a look inside your camera's CF card slot. I suspect that you may have a bent pin in there. If so, remove batteries and card. Use a small/skinny jeweler's flat screwdriver to bend the pin back as close as possible. The jeweler's screwdrivers that you see at the dollar store will work fine. Another tool that I sometimes use is a stiff wire with a bent hook on the end to get very flattened pins started. Take your time and use as much patience as you can muster (take a breather in between if needed). Just keep nudging it upward/straighter a "tiny bit at a time". Whatever you do, don't try to unbend it with one push/nudge, you won't be able to do it.

It doesn't have to be perfect, just as close as you can get it. When it's the best that you can get it, take your flash card and "SLOWLY" insert it. The card itself should fine-align the pin. Remove the card, and verify that the pin is still straightened. If so, reinsert the card and try it out.

Resolution

The XTi allow to set different image size for manual modes an for AUTO modes. So you can set a Large size superfine for auto and RAW type for manual modes. So check the size settings under manual and automatic modes.

However, the "smal" resolution (1936x1288 px) on XTi will allow you to print good 5x7 photos.

Canon rebel xti focus issues

I think it might be a lens issue.
make sure you change the macro option. the macro must be activated if you are taking a picture of something which is close to the camera. if it's not activated, the picture will not be focused.
The same will happen if the item is far and the macro is ON.

Date on pictures taken and movie shooting on canon eos 400d

The EOS Digital Rebel, EOS Digital Rebel XT and EOS Digital Rebel XTi do not support stamping the date and time on the image.

It is not possible to record the date and time as part of the image at the time the picture is taken. However, the date and time is captured in the EXIF information of the image at the point of capture. It is possible to print the image with the date and time via printing software. Please see the documentation for the software package that you use for printing images for the proper procedure.

Missing Photos Canon Rebel XTi

You can actually still keep taking photos with your camera without loosing the images. The XTi will never delete the images off a card unless you press the trashcan key and tell it to "delete all".

It's always good practice in these situations to have a memory card reader handy. You can pick up a compact flash reader for your XTi for about $14 at BestBuy or many other retaillers.

But to answer your question: Use the ZoomBrowser EX software that came with the camera. If your Picasa is set to automatically connect and download every time the camera is connected - temporarily disable it. That way it wont inturrupt Canon's software (which I prefer).

Dark shadow on right side of picture

sounds like a shutter leaf dropping into the image. however, they are usually horizontal and more likely to manifest when in landscape mode. (horizontal, normal)
try using flash pointed up to ceiling.
also, could need to check for auto sync speed setting. usually 1/125 to 1/60. if its off, it could be catching the shutter in the wrong place.
check manual for settings for using flash.

Print Picture with date

I don't believe that the XTi will let you have the date on the picture.
Easiest solution I can think of is to download some free software like Paint.net and use the text tool to add it in the corner before printing.
If you have forgotten the date or time, and you're using windows (not sure how to do this on a mac) right click on the image, go to properties, click the summary tab, and then click Advanced. That will give you something called the EXIF data, or all the info about the picture (camera model, shutter speed, etc). Near the bottom should be the date and time.
