Question about Bernina 1008

2 Answers

I have an 1130 bernina and love it! with all fabric types the top material is not moving along with the bottom material when sewing seams. the lighter fabrics are puckering and the seams are anywhere from 1/4" to 1' SHORTER ...tried changing the tension, lengthening and shortening the stitch, using different needle and needle sizes,etc... could it be the tension on the presser foot is off and if so how do i check it?

You might try getting a walking foot (or even feed foot). Not too expensive but invaluable when problems like this arise. This foot will move the top fabric along with the bottom fabric and I beleive your problem will be solved. They are great for slippery materials and matching plaids etc.

The 1130 does not have a consumer adjustable presser foot. Check to be sure you are using the correct presser foot .Some feet are slightly different in height which is how the pressure is regulated. If this is not your problem it will need to be seen by a technician.

Need to now where to put tentions to sew sweat pants.

use a couple of pieces of waste material the same as the sweat pants material and sew about an inch long
adjust the needle tension and do it again
repeat the exercise until the top and bottom thread joint at the middle of the two pieces of the material
tension settings on the machine are a loose guide as the thread thickness, material thickness and needle size all have a bearing in the tensions of the thread
so practice and adjust prior to sewing is the way to go

How can I get my Bernina 750 to feed the top and bootom fabric pieces for quilts evenly

Try using a walking foot. The issue most quilters face when working with any sewing machine is that there is a force being applied to move the bottom fabric but the top fabric is only moving based on friction with the bottom fabric. This can cause the bottom fabric to move quicker than the top. A walking foot helps solve this issue by placing a second set of feed dogs on the top of the fabric to mirror the force being applied on the bottom, allowing both pieces of fabric to move evenly.

Hope that helps!

How to set bottom and top thread center of material

Hello
It sounds like you are trying to balance the top and bobbin thread so it locks perfectly. If so, this is accomplished by balancing the thread "tension". If you see loops on the underside of the fabric, tighten (increase) the tension. If loops for on the top, lower the tension.

If the fabric is puckering: reduce the stitch length AND you may need to use a finer needle along with finer thread in the bobbin and on top.

Presser foot pressure is rarely adjusted, unless sewing with extremely variable fabrics. For example, pressure is lowered when sewing with silk chiffon as it transports easily under the presser foot (and to prevent damage to the fragile fabric). Whereas pressure is increased when sewing with tent canvass to allow the feed dogs to be able to 'grip' and move the fabric.

Happy Sewing!

Bernina 1130 feed dog does not move fabric, the dog just moves up and down

This problem maybe cause by the stepping motor being sealed or the main board problem. Please go to your local sewing machine mechanic.

What causes the bottom stitch to look like it's catching the material when I sew?

try changing the needle--flat side to the back of the machine
the needle & thread & fabric have to be compatable
light weight fabric requires a different needle than medium to heavy weight fabric
if you do not have a manual check with bernina customer service about one
or
sewing partsonline.com
try a top tension of 3 or 4
clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for loose thread or lint

When sewing hems and coming across a thick seam, the pressure foot seems to not allow the material to run through, keeping it stalled while the needle continues to pump into the material eventually...

I don't think you can adjust the feed pressure on this machine. I have the same machine and the same problem and my solution is the same as you've already mentioned - raise the foot and move the fabric by hand. I would do it by turning the wheel by hand until the seam is clear of the foot to prevent breaking a needle or sewing my fingers.

Feed dogs won't work

Take your machine to an authorized Bernina dealer for service.

Proper service and care will ensure the value of the machine.

This brand holds it's value better than any other brand and always resells for good prices on Ebay.

You can check the Bernina website for dealers in your area.

The bottom thread on my Bernina 140 jams

Try pulling more thread out before you begin the seam - about 6". If you can hold the threads while you take the first few stitches that helps too.

Hi, have you tried changing the pressure of the presser foot using the dial on the side of the machine? Fiona
