Question about LG WM2688H Front Load Washer

Drain Cycle Noise

My washer makes a sound that makes me think the drain pump is trying to turn but it cannot. (Thumping Sound??) I drained the water manually from the filter cleanout door and checked the filter but found nothing in it to clean out. No error codes are displayed.

If the impeller is blocked from turning does someone know how to get at it to clear a blockage? Machine is set back into a closet.

    Thank you very much for the response. I did pull the machine out of the closet and removed the rear access panel to take a look. After seeing that I could not get to the drain pump from there (As you said) I deceided to take one more quick look at the filter in the front. I removed the filter and found nothing in it but probing in the filter compartment with my finger for a while I felt something loose and after moving it around for a while I was able to remove a small finish nail that must have been in a pants pocket and was able to get passed the filter. The nail was quite rusty. Hard telling how long it had been there but apparently it was impeding the drain pump impeller because after I removed it everything was fine. I replaced the back cover and put the maching back into the closet and all is well again. Lesson learned.....Check this filter more often and DOUBLE check pockets when loading the machine. Thanks again,

The only way to get into the drain pump is to have the top panel, the control panel and the front panel removed.  You will have to move the washer out of the closet to get the 2 screws holding the top in place.

Sounds like your drain line is clogged. You may also have stuff clogging a water filter just before the pump, or the water outlet coming from the drum.
It could also be a problem with the pump, but until the drain line is opened up, you still won't be able to empty the water from the washer.

Machine wont drain and the door wont open
Hi,

If your washer won't drain, check these:

It spins, but doesn't pump
It doesn't spin or pump
It pumps, but the water returns
It spins, but doesn't pump If your washer spins but doesn't pump the water out, the drain line is probably clogged. In many washers, a small sock or other piece of clothing can get between the clothes tub and the outer tub that holds the water. If the clothing gets between the tubs, it may then get into the drain hose that's attached to the pump--or even into the pump itself. If it's in the pump, you need to remove the hoses from the pump and pull the item out.

To remove the sock from the outer tub port, open the washer's main access panel and remove the large-diameter rubber hose that connects the pump to the bottom of the outer tub. Then, using needle-nose pliers, try to grab and remove the clothing through the port.

Sometimes you can't remove the stuck clothing from below. Then you have to remove the agitator, top of the outer drum shield, and inner clothes tub. This isn't easy to do--and you may need special tools--so you might be happier getting a qualified appliance repair technician to do the job.

If the drain line isn't plugged, the problem may be with your pump. Even if the pump appears to be turning, the internal impeller may be broken. If so, you need to replace the pump.

It doesn't spin or pump If your washer doesn't spin or pump water out but the motor is running, your washer probably has a frozen pump pulley. If so, you need to replace the pump. To check the pulley, remove the pump from the washer and try to rotate the pulley manually. If it doesn't turn freely--if it's frozen or stiff--replace it.

It pumps, but the water returns If the water that pumps out of the machine goes back into the machine after the spin cycle, your washer may be siphoning the water from a laundry tub that has a slow drain, back into the washer. The usual remedy for this is to improve the draining of the laundry tub. (Is something stuck in the drain?) Also, check for these problems:

  • If the drain hose reaches more than about 4 inches into the laundry tub, cut off the excess.


  • If your drain hose is lower than the washer's cabinet, install an air gap/siphon break assembly.

Washer stopped in the middle of a cycle, didn't even drain the water. When I turn it back on it just makes a constant clicking sound.
check the pump if that is not working it wont do resrt off cycle

Amana front loader washer just stopped in the middle of the wash cycle , there is no code and the only sound it makes is a humming noise but nothing else happens ,water wont drain out... drain hose is...
the humming noise is its trying to drain-check the pump it may have something stuck in it-cheers Dennt

Check the drain pump. There may be a coin, hairclip , button etc stuck in the blades of the pump. If the machine cant pump out, it wont go through the cycle.

Washer makes a steady thumping sound
Could be coin in pump hitting blades...Try pump only no spin this will discount the drum ....Check filter if you have one.

Solution for Washer Kenmore 80series stopped on SPIN CYCLE and no Drainage or motor running.

** What was stopping it to drain was the defective limit switch which when the cover lid is closed starts the spin and the drain at the same time. I jumped the wires to get my close washed and I have to replace it for security. I had to unscrew the front control panel and remove the casing that wraps around the washer to have access for the limit switch wireing harness. I cut the two black wires and joined them with a wirenut so that I was able to continue my wash and draining the water leftt over.

Kenmore front loading washer won't drain or aggitate, just buzzes
take the front bottom panel off. inside there is a drain pump. you need to remove filter from drain pump its look like a knob. be careful because their is water inside your drain pump so use some big thing for water. clean your filter. put filter back tight. i hope will solve your problem.
