My mitsubishi vs-55707 was smelling burnt and the picture was imbalanced, (an almost 3-D effect) then all color and sound went out. turned it on a few days later, got sound and somewhat of a red tinted picture (unclear,snowy) looked inside the box and noticed the wires and the board going to the red tube are both burnt. is this fixable by myself and also would it be a costly fix?

Your power supply board is not yet dead, u know basic electronics' and soldering? Most of the times, the power supply board just have dead leakages gases capacitors.These capacitors always bulges up on it top,or puff up on it top.Replaced these gases leakages capacitors will get your TV power stable,and work again.Or tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole refurbish power supply board for the replacement.

This is very simple to repair if have burning parts smell,replaced parts that burning smell,the parts that cause by the burning smell part,make it to dies that hard to find.My sugestion replaced the DM power board,first to get power back,than go on from there.

convergance amps ic's shorted you will need to replace them or have it done along with the 2 resistor that will have burnt not a bad job about 150 to 200 dollar job

Sounds like the vetical deflection went out. Most likely have a leaking picture tube and the cooling fluid has goton on the board so you would be beter to replace if that is it.

Set may have poor/cold solder connections on power supply board and convergence board.

If the picture looks like a 3D then you have a convergence failure.
I would suggest to visually inspect the STK Ics for dry or crystallized solder joints.

check the high voltage leads on the multiplier flyback transformer for leakage

That is a VZ3 chassis, similar to Mitsubishi models Ts-4545, Ts-5045, Ts-5545, Vs-4543, Vs-4544, Vs-5043, Vs-5044, Vs-5047, Vs-6043, Vs-6047 and has common failures in the vertical circuit, specifically vert Ic401 which is a La7845 which is usually caused by defective C402 100uf 50v and/or open 1.2 ohm 2 watt R510 next to FBT.
If not that check C268 off Q215 on signal board 22mf/50v and Ic200 on signal module Cxa2025s. However the vertical failure is more likely.
