Unless you have a jump drive and high speed internet access at the library you might be able to download the patch files that way.

Nope. The Intel graphics card is hardly game worthy. Do not use this for a gamers computer.

I bought a RegPro software and driver detective which they did help a lot but the problem is not completely gone

Slow Windows Machine! Sounds like not enough resources such as RAM and CPU. Check Performance in Task-Manager (CTRL-ALT-DELETE). High CPU levels causes hang ups like freezing. Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig. In Startup tab, uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when only you initiate. Consider increasing RAM. Uninstall any extras like those pushy toolbars, and add-ons.

your computer simply may not be able to play world of warcraft anymore. you may need to splurge and buy a more game-intensive computer, or upgrade the video card. good brands to look for are anything ati and nvidia.

Need full description of RAM for Gateway 300X CEL

Well, a p4 ddr 266 usually has a cpu limit of 2.4 ghz, 400mhz bus. As for Essex, you can purchase those by looking for them online. As for the ram, ask Gateway the max ram limit (likely 1 gig) at 266mhz bus (pc2100). I did a little research online and I did not see any 300x with more than 1 gig or total ram. Look for 266 bus on your ram, (2x512), and a CPU at no higher than 2.6 at 400mhz bus (2.4 would likely be cheaper and may be more compatible, and you only lose 266 megahertz). Also, do not plan on making this into an uber-sweet gaming system. It was designed for basic computing. You can max the ram at a gig, drop a p4 2.4 in it, and add an add-in video card to beef up the graphics. You can play world of warcraft on it, but your framerates will be about 15-25 fps, and you can watch movies and shows, but you wont be impressed. Still, it makes for a great office machine, or drop a big fat EIDE hard drive in it and make it a file server. Also, you can squeeze a little more performance outta your hardware by running Windows 2000 rather than XP or Vista. 2k has less background junk eating up your cpu resources, and would likely perform more smoothly on the older hardware.

Well, i was playing World of Warcraft today, and randomly everything started lagging pretty hard, so i restarted my cpu, and now i can't even been on for 5 minutes without the computer freezing up...

if you keep reset on to your CPU this will affect to your Hard Drive. When your online games WOW very lag then do not let that online game on play to your Computer. You know or maybe your Computer are not enough to run this game. Check all the plug in play device which are capable to run this game. Your VGA Compatibility e.i AGP or PCI-E, Memory speed e.i DD1, DD2 & DDR3 and mostly Games Accelerator Programs.
Hope this tip might help you.
Good luck!

Asus a676ps

Hello Kristi,

I assume you are talking about the disc that has the video drivers for your EAX1600pro video card.

You won't need the disk, you can download newer video drivers for your video card from ASUS's website.

The website is a bit hard to go through to get to the page with the video driver you want.

Go to http://www.asus.com/, and select your region and country.

On the next page at the top, Click Download.

On the next page, near the top under ASUS, click Download again.

There will be a box that says General Download and it will have 3 Drop Down Menu Boxes.

On the first one, Click the down arrow and select "Graphics Card"
On the second one, click the down arrow and select "ATi Series"
On the third one, go down the list and select "EAX1600 Series"

Then click the Green Search Button

A White box will load and appear in the middle of your screen. Click the down arrow and select your Operating System from the list. You probably have WinXP, or select the one you do have and click the Gray Search button.

On the next page will have some search results. Click the [+] beside VGA and it will open up a bunch of files that you can choose from.

The first one should be the most up to date drivers for that video card: Version 8.561.

Click the word Global to download the Driver. A gray box will pop up to download the driver. Click Save and choose to save it somewhere on your computer where you can find it easy when the download is finished. It's usually best to choose to save it to your Desktop.

After it finishes downloading, you should be able to double click on the file where you saved it and it will want to "unzip" the files. Create a new folder and unzip (extract) the files to the new folder. You will need a program like Winzip or WinRar. Open the new folder and double click the Red ATi icon that is named "Setup.exe"

This should start the installation of your video drivers.

Make sure you pick the right Video Card from the list and get the correct drivers. The ASUS website was tricky to find the drivers and I downloaded the drivers myself on to my computer. If you need, get someone to help you. I tried to describe what you needed to do step by step and I hope you dont have any problems with my directions and you get everything working again so you can keep playing World of Warcraft.

I play World of Warcraft too ;)

Please write back and let me know if this worked for you.

Try reapplying the thermal paste. Make sure it is a thin layer evenly spread across CPU. Also make sure you have good airflow through your case. And check your BIOS to make sure your fan will spin up faster to regulate temperature.

My comuter won't start up properly. It stays blank right before the log in screen at start up. It shuts down automatically when I play certain video games.

Ok this could be a CPU Issue, after a while the thermo paste on the heatsink which is on the CPU under the fan the paste will dry out and when it does the cpu once starts working under load due to the games being played will shut down to protect itself and the board.

What you need to do or get someone to do it for you take out the Heatsink reapply thermo paste on top of the CPU (by the way thats what I call it) may be known in your region as Thermal grease (also called thermal compound, heat paste, heat transfer compound, thermal paste, or heat sink compound. If you need more help let me know

Regards,
Spud
