This error indicates a cassette mechanism malfunction.
It happens usually when you don't operate the camecorder for long time leaving the cassette inside and the battery attached.
1. Open the cassette housing and nock GENTLY with your finger tip
on the cassette cabinet (particularly on the position marked "push") untilthe cassette is released.
2. Push on the right place (marked "push") to close and then close the
3. Operate the cassette (play, fast forward/backward).
Repeat the above steps several times until the problem is gone.
Advise: Remove the battery and cassette when leaving the camecorderfor long period without being operated, and store the camcorder in a dust/humidity protected place.
Hope this can help. Abdullah

The same happens from time to time with my panasonic NV-GS11 GC video camera and I have no idea what is causing it. But what I normally do is just turn it of wait 10 seconds and turn it on again. If it stil comes on try removing the tape and see if it is faulty.
This problem is in the owners manual. It says that if you press reset and the problem keeps recurring you must have it serviced. Per the panasonic website if you purchased the camcorder greater than 1 year ago the flat fee for repair is about $265. Buy a new camcorder, thats the most cost effective solution.
Hi, I have a Panasonic NV-DS38 which does exactly the same thing. I spent £160 in a repair lab to fix a year ago and now its doing the same thing again. V annoying.
But I have found its something to do with the loaded tape. Try a different tape or try ejecting, powering off, powering on and reloading the tape. Its a workaround rather thasn a solution but have a go and let me know.
