Question about Toshiba 42H81 42" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Like seeing double!

When TV is powered on (before signal from satellite dish) the input indentifier (DVI) appears as if I am seeing double (letters are not centered) and it appears as a green DVI offset over a blue DVI.  Once the picture comes on the images (persons, lettering etc) have a green hue outline to them and the image is fuzzy.  Auto Focus returns an "Auto Focus Error" message
Any help would be appreciated! thanks!

DVI / HDMI problem

This problem is almost certainly on the 8300HD side of your setup. URL for the 8300HD, just in case you need it: --> http://www.scientificatlanta.com/products/consumers/userguidepdfs/4013171.pdf Dittos for the TV, just in case: --> http://www.samsung.com/us/support/download/supportDownDetail.do?group=televisions&type=televisions&subtype=dlptv&model_nm=HCN4226W&mType=UM&dType=D&vType=L&cttID=37697 You're using the HDMI-to-DVI cable to connect, and I see that the manual warns on the bottom of page 11 that some DVI connected HDTVs are incompatible to the signals that are output by the HDMI interface. First thing to try - when you change the settings in the 8300HD, in the "General Settings > Audio", see if you have this problem with all of the possible selections, or if it's only with the "Dolby Digital" setting. Since the HDMI also contains the audio signal, it may be interfering with the DVI recognition in the TV. OR - See if you still have this problem when turning the TV on first, then the 8300HD. Or vice-versa. The power-on order of the two devices may make a difference. OR - With the TV on and with the 8300HD off, press the GUIDE and INFO buttons at the same time. Using the on-screen menu, verify that it is set to HD mode. Press the POWER button on the 8300HD when finished. OR - Replace the HDMI-to-DVI cable with a PrPbY/V component cable, available at Radio Shack, Best Buy and other electronics stores. One of these options should solve the problem. If not, you'll have to start sending e-mails to Sci-Atl and Samsung. Hope this helps! ;)

Inputing HDMI signal to a WS-55313 55 via an HDMI-DVI cable

HDMI standard is a bear, especially "Older" versions. It should be possible to input HDMI to a DVI, either DVI-I or DVI-D, input, there are however DVI analogue too, in fact we have, 3 type of them, they are, DVI-I, DVI-A & DVI-D.... Also some HDMI do not send the Audio over it, as it should, so all in all it can be a pickle. So you MUST get a converter that works with your sort of DVI. You would have to select that DVI, input, which may be under Auxillary, or External or the like, try scrolling through your AV inputs, see if you "Find" it. if so, the set will "Read" the signal and display it automatically. The Audio, however will have to be done via the AV sockets, the Red & White stereo IN, from the DVD etc. If you have any other inputs such as Component Video, Green, Red, Blue, then this is the best way... The Audio, again must be routed to the AV, the Red & White Jacks. So ensure you have those outputs on your new DVD.
I have included a couple of links below about DVI & HDMI for your convenience. http://www.datapro.net/techinfo/dvi_info.html http://www.hdmi.org/learningcenter/faq.aspx

It wont display satellite(dish) or

If the satellite picture displays on other tvs in the house, and you have the satellite hooked up to the rear projection tv you may have to do the following:
1. Using the remote, select the input button. You will now see a menu of several choices.
2.Methodically go from one to the next until your satellite pix appears.

I have a Playstation 3/blu ray player and I don't know how to get hi def video on a samsung hln467w

Your TV only has a DVI input, not an HDMI which PS3 has as an output. You can buy a HDMI to DVI adapter and connect the HDMI out of the PS3 to the DVI input of the TV. To get the true HighDef video you need a HDMI input on the TV to enjoy the full capacity of the Blu ray capabilities of the PS3. DVI came out before the HDMI standard and your picture will look good but not like HDMI. I have the same problem with my samsung 65 inch. I Bought the wrong technology. I hope this helps and good luck!

I have an r52wh74 tv. cant get it to display 720p

Hello Matiki64:

Yes this television does support 720p and 1080i. Hear is something that might solve your problem or at least get you going in the right direction.

Problems with DVI-HDTV Connection
• Make sure the DVI device is turned on and the cables are firmly connected. If problems still occur, turn off your device. Re-connect
your device. Reset the power by unplugging the power cord and plugging it back in.
• If you are tuned to the DVI-HDTV input and you’re receiving Unusable Signal message on-screen, contact the manufacturer of the
DVI device for further assistance.
• If you tune to the DVI-HDTV input and you see snow, the video goes in and out, or the video takes a long time to appear, your DVI
device is having trouble sending video information to the TV. Re-connect your device. Reset the power by unplugging the power
cord and plugging it back in. If problems persist, try connecting to the Y Pb Pr jacks instead if they are available or contact the
manufacturer of the DVI device for further assistance.
• If you have bars on each side of your picture, the device you connected might have a switch or a menu option allowing you to
change the picture format output that will fix this. Choose either 720p or 1080i.

Does not pick up cable satellite signal

Do you have the satelite hooked threu the regular cable input? If so hook it thru one of the video inputs instead; composite video or component video. the picture and sound will be better and you will be by-passing the problem area of your Tv ( the tuner).
