Trend Micro Antivirus/Vista Antivirus 2008

Purchased computer sept. 2008--I installed Trend Micro Antivirus and Webroot Spy Sweeper shortly after. Two days ago I started getting a Antivirus Warning stating Attack Detected-Antivirus engine detected harmful actions from remote computer on network. Blaster/Sasser.variant worm behavior detected. You have to register your copy fo get full protection feature set and an ability to defeat upcoming threats. I then have to Activate Now! and pay a fee or Continue unprotected. It's listed under Vista Antivirus 2008, but I use the Trendo Micro and that doesn't expire until November 2008. So, I'm just confused. Can anyone help me??? Is this something i need to buy and install, or is it a scame???

This screams scam. I'm more familiar with a similar version but on XP. Run the trend anti virus and spysweeper. If it persists you can try downloading Super antispyware, Malwarebytes, Ad-aware, Spybot search and destroy. Just make sure that you trust the program you use to scan. My personal recommended spyware/antivirus are spyware doctor and Nod 32 both good programs that don't slow down your computer much. You can also try the online trend scan called housecall which is free but it might be equivilant to what you have installed but it can't hurt. If you have any questions drop a comment on here.

Hello there.

Unfortunately you have been infected, by the software called "Vista Antivirus 2008". What this software does is infect you, then prompt you to pay to remove the infection that it installed. So it is a scam.

What i would recommend is use the uninstall instructions from here http://www.windowsvistaplace.com/xp-antivirus-2008-removal-instructions-xp-antivirus-2008/spyware-removal

This will remove the infection (and others) from your system.

Once you have completed the steps, be sure to try an online scanner such as housecall here http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
This will not conflict with your already-installed Trend Micro software, it mearly runs through your web browser.

On that note, Internet Explorer is not very safe for browsing the Internet with, i would recommend either Firefox or Opera for a safer/better browsing experience.

Hope this helps.

Spy sweeper reintalled 3 times and does not work

download spybot search and destroy and run this plus download and install avg 8 it's free and run both programs offline meaning not connected to the net and once done you may try and run spy-sweeper again.

If all fails try another copy from web it may have come down corrupted.

If all is well then happy surfing but if the new copy is the same then hunt in the registry for all keys belonging to spy sweeper once you have removed it from your computer also go-to program files directory and find the folder that belongs to spy sweeper and delete folder as most of un-installers don't remove the folder to program and try installing again and if all fails then then other thing I can suggest is move all your files to a safe place and redo your operating system from scratch but after you have installed os, install spy sweeper first then any other security software before you go to net.

hope this is helpful

Hands Down Best Antivirus for Windows XP/Vista/7 (It's Free!)

Antivirus products come and go at an alarming rate. At this current juncture one of the best antivirus solutions (which I might add is FREE!) is a Microsoft product. Go figure! A free antivirus product produced by the operating system creator for that operating system. Makes sense right? As a result this product has one of the fastest scanning engines out there. In my experience I have had computers protected by an enterprise version of Trend Micro or Symantec get infected by a virus. One those same computers I would install Microsoft SE and kiss the virus good bye! Anyway, this software is called Microsoft Security Essentials and is free for home use or for up to 10 computers in a small business setting. An enterprise option is also available. Microsoft SE is for Windows XP, Vista, and 7 only. Sorry 95, 98, 2000, and ME. Before you install this software please make sure you uninstall any existing antivirus products. Having more than one AV product will result in system instability.
Enjoy!
http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

It's your Webroot Spy Sweeper that's having problems - it may be related to your antivirus or firewall (try updating them), or if you're using Vista there's an incompatibility with the automatic update. Some of the possibilities can be found on Webroot's support site -

http://support.webroot.com/

Start with updating Spy Sweeper to the latest version (by manual update) and then branch out.
