Having the same problem as another - TomTom worked on 29 August. Now, green light only comes on when it's plugged in. Unit does not turn on at all. I've already tried the charge-and-reset and it still doesn't work.

Tom Tom does not offer support or repair services for out of warranty units. The website will continue to loop you back to thew "Reset" procedures. Calling customer service in the US at 866-486-6866 will confirm this information was current as of 1/28/09. This is a throw away unit.

Turn your unit off connect it to your PC, and then turn it on.

Download tomtomhome from http://www.tomtom.com/services/service.php?id=16&tab=87

Install and run the program and follow the onscreen prompts to update your unit.

My tomtom one gps can't get signal

When was the last time you updated the QuickFix of your TomTom? It helps your GPS to find the satellites.
Please, do the following:
1) Install "TomTom Home" software in your computer from www.tomtom.com
2) Start TomTom Home in your computer
3) Plug in the GPS dock to your computer's USB port and place the GPS on the dock. The green light on the bottom right of the GPS should turn ON to indicate that the GPS is getting power from the dock and charging
4) Start your GPS while being in the dock. If the GPS asks "do you want to connect to computer" answer "YES"
5) The TomTom Home software will detect the GPS and check if there are any updates for it. Then you'll be offered updates to install. Some are free, some are not. Be sure you choose to update "QuickFix".
Please, report back if you need further assistance

How can I charge my tomtom xl 340s with my computer or is there an ac adapter option? Is car charging the only method?

According to Bill, from the TomTom technical services, your TomTom will charge when plugged either to your computer or to your car, as long at your gps unit is turned OFF.

Where is the reset button on the Tomtom xl340s

The TomTom XL 340-S uses the power button as a reset. With the unit turned off, hold down the power button for approximately 15 seconds, until the TomTom turns on. As soon as the unit turns on, release the power button. The unit is now reset.

Charging tomtom XL GPS

Hi Jill,

It all depends on your computer. The charging current via USB is limited by the computer. Some restrict this to 500mA, others (lap-tops mainly) to 200mA. If the TomTom is turned off, you should get the battery charged in 3 to 6 hours. With the unit on, it can take many times longer as the unit will take almost 200mA from the battery.

You may have not written the entire program to the SD card. If you saved the program prior to the upgrade, start tomtom home program and reinstall the program. then upgrade again. The tomtom home program is not as user friendly as you would hope. Also turn the unit off, take out the card and then reinsert and turn the unit on again.
