I installed Windows XP on Compaq C552US to replace the Via Vista. It worked fine for a couple month. Then it can not start up and stuck at showing the Windos XP logo. I run the check by getting into the SETUP window. It shows the hard drive has problem.

There is no drivers for Windows XP for this notebook, only Vista and Windows 7. My advice is to install Windows 7 - it works just fine.

hi your compaq has its own registered windows xp thats why its performing all that what you need do is that you should get the cd that came with the compaq or you should look for someone that has the exact pc so that you can copy the cd to install

THE COMPUTER DOESN'T EXACTLY CHARGE THE BATTERY. MAYBE THE ADAPTER FOR THE C502US ISN'T COMPATIBLE WITH UR COMPUTER, OR THE ADAPTER CONNECTION AT THE COMPUTER/ MOTHERBOARD IS FAULTY.

I have emailed a solution direct.

check first the power connector.. and be sure that you power not auto shut off. then instal again the os.. even this vista or xp don'st matter...

as long as you powere is good condition..

Installing Windows XP will have no effect on your charging system. Have the charger and plug socket checked at your local PC store.

yea it can be installed on these computers, you have to go into your bios and disable sata support, then delete and fromat the partion and then insert your xp disk and voila... this computer i'm posting from is a compaq with the celeron m575 that i installed xp on...

You have 3 paths to look at and you also need to think about the need to change out Vista for XP...

Vista has gotten a bad rap on being something that does not work... it works fine... unless you have some very old program that you have to have for your job, Vista will work just fine...

Now... 1. you can install a boot manager and have both Vista and XP on your computer... 2. you can reformate you HD and install XP, you have an XP disk and code??? 3. you can run Virtual PC on Vista and install XP, still need the disk and code...
Virtual PC will allow you to fire up XP and run it as a separate program on top of Vista... and it's a free download...

Still I would look at just why you need to change... I have been running Vista since before it came out and other than a couple of programs in the beginning were a problem, everything works just great...

hi,, this compaq is fucking,,,,,,,, even i got the same problem

first, have a WIN XP startup disk...created by (in windows)  inserting floppy and right clicking choosing format and select option "create MSDOS startup disk"

first backup all personal files...then restart and bypass to DOS screen at startup...try using F8 key just after BIOS screen...then select startup to DOS prompt only...then run (from the floppy disc) format c:

now you should have a nearly bare hard drive. repeat above steps and this time choose "startup using CDROM drivers"...then insert CDROM and redirect to that drive letter (d drive?) and run setup.exe.
