Whirlpool Dryer not heating

Hi there.  We have a Whirlpool LER4634J model dryer that now refuses to heat at all.  We've noticed over the past few weeks that sometimes it'll take two cycles to dry thoroughly, but today there's no heat at all coming from it.  We had a power outage last night for a few minutes.  Does that have anything to do with it?  We also have a Whirlpool Electric Dryer (LER4634EQ3) that's not heating. I noticed this about two weeks ago. We clean the lint tray after each use. Can you help me?

I just moved into a new place and had to change the 4 pronge plug to a 3 prong plug. I am not sure if I connected the new 3 prong pulg correctly to the dryer. The 1st time I connected the 3 prong to the dryer, and plugged in the plug to the wall, I got a big "spark" that came out of the wall and it would not turn on, so I found that I did not have the ground wire conneted to the correct spot. I change the ground connection and got power but, now I have no heat at all and I have ran it through 3 cylces. Can you tell me if I am doing something wrong or what I need to do to fix the heat??

First check the circuit breaker in the house, turn it off then back on. if that does not do it then let me know so we can go to the next step. Mike

    • if you already checked the breaker, then you might have damaged the outlet or the wiring in the house, so check the voltage at the outlet for a full 220v and across the neutral (from hot to neutral should read 110v on both sides)

i doubt that the heating element was damaged.

I have a Whirlpool dryer model #WDE5840SW0 and it is not heating. I replaced the heating element and it is still is not heating. Any suggestions??

Hi, before replacing a element, verify power was being delivered to it or just ohm it out. Sounds like a high temp limit or a defective thermostat.

Whirlpool Dryer not heating

If it was taking longer to heat it probably has a restricted vent. Check for lint build-up. May also have blower cage full of lint.
UNPLUG UNIT FIRST!!
To access blower cage, remove rear panel. Remove four screws holding duct on left side in place at bottom. Remove two screws at filter area on top. Pull duct out at bottom and reach inside and remove lint.
Also ohm out all thermos. Check thermos on side of heater. Check white one to right of duct you cleaned. Check between larger two wires on four wire thermo. All should show zero resistance.
Check between two outside blades of plug. Should have about 220 volts. Pull plug out slightly and carefully check for power between outside blades. Then check for 110 volts from center to either outside blade. It only requires one 11o volt circuit to run, but both to heat.
