Question about Compaq Armada 1700 Notebook
This is an older compaq laptop. It is a 1700 armada compaq.I think it is either a windows 95 or a windows nt. It says on the laptop designed for microsoft...windows 95 windows nt. I am having a problem that says NON SYSTEM DISK OR ERROR. REPLACE & STRIKE ANY KEY WHEN READY. ALSO THE SCREEN IS BLACK, I got this used. I do not have an instruction manual with this. When I turn on the computer it says this the very first thing. I didnt have any floppy discs or anything in it at all either. Thanks for any help.
Sounds like your Hard Drive is gone, or you have a floppy disk in drive or cd in drive, could be a CMOS setting wrong also, but I would suspect the Hard drive is shot on a machine this old. P.S. I am running an Armada 1700 right now. Your HDD door should be on the bottom of the machine about 3"X3" with a 1"X3" lip that is hinged and has a catch on it, you need to release the catch and see if it even has a hard drive in the caddy, it will slide towards the front of the machine, slide it back towards the back it is only held in by the cover's foam and may have come dislodged. Some things to try.
