Question about Computers & Internet

Firewire problem I think - I have a Sony Vaio laptop, the firewire port is 4 pin, it is connected to a LaCie CD Burner via 6 pin and the burner is daisy chained to a AcomData external hard drive via 6 pin. If I burn a CD from files on my Sony laptop hard drive to the LaCie everything works fine (fast). Transfering audio files from the LaCie to the Sony hard drive is quick. Moving audio files from the Sony hard drive to the AcomData drive through the described connection is also quick. However trying to burn a CD from audio files on the AcomData external drive through the described connection to the LaCie burner is very very slow if it works at all. Any idea's? Thanks Pat

There is only one firewire port. Would a hub be better than having everything daisy chained?

    Thanks

Do you have another empty firewire port that you can plug the CD burner into?

If the hub has an external power supply it migh do the trick. That way you can have a backup port if needed.

Make sure the hard drive isn't connected to the hub. Sometime windows doesn't see it when its connected to a hub.

Firewire connector doesn't match

It sounds like you may have one of the newest MBPs that doesn't have a firewire port. If that is the case, it is still possible to connect firewire peripherals through a Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter cable.

Can I hook up to the DW 100 Canon burner with my ZR200 to burn mini tapes on DVD?

No. The Canon USA web site says the Canon DW-100 has a USB terminal and works with "USB 2.0 Hi-Speed (with compatible Canon camcorders only)." In other words, the Canon DW-100 burner works only with Canon's USB 2.0 camcorders. I have a Canon ZR200. The ZR200 has Firewire 400 digital video output, not USB 2.0 output. The USB port on the ZR200 is ONLY for still images. Video will not and cannot be output through the USB port on the ZR200. (Page 121 in the ZR200 manual mentions using the USB port on your camcorder for transferring still JPEG images to your computer.) You need a DVD burner with "DV Input" (also called Firewire 400 or IEEE 1394) to hook up your camcorder to burn Mini-DV tapes onto DVD. The Sony VRDMC10 Stand Alone DVD Recorder/Player has DV Input. The ZR200 camcorder did not come with a Firewire cable, but you can buy one at any electronics store or at a cheaper price online. Make sure that you get the right kind of Firewire cable, 4-pin to 4-pin or 4-pin to 6-pin, whatever the DVD burner you choose requires. (Your ZR200 has a 4-pin DV port on the camera's end.) USB 2.0 Hi-Speed (with compatible Canon camcorders only)

I require a link to download the software for a Panasonic NV-GS25 video camera to be able to transfer from tape to DVD/PC

As you may know, the Panasonic website has only the update files for the MotionDV Studio LE software that came with the camcorder. However, this DV camcorder has a Firewire connector. You just need ANY video editing software, the right Firewire cable (4 or 6 pin, or 4+6 pin cable), and a Firewire port (add a card to your computer , if it doesn't already have Firewire, aka IEEE 1394A).
  • Apparently, Vista and Win7 on many newer PC's come with something like Movie Maker. Mac OS X has iMovie. Both support Firewire devices.
  • DVD burners and computers with DVD burners usually come with some kind of burner software. Sometimes, they have a basic (Lite) video editing package - examples include Nero, Roxio, and Ulead. Even at the "Lite Edition" level, these video editing packages work with Firewire camcorders.

Advice was given to me to buy firewire cable as my sony handycam DCR-TRV22E wont recognize by my mac OS X ver. 10.6.6? what type of firewire shld i buy?

I'm glad to provide the information about the required firewire cable.
All Sony Camcorders are having 4 pin firewire/i.LINK port.
You can purchase a Firewire cable depends upon the number of pins available on the firewire port on the Computer.
If you have 4 pin firewire port in the Computer, you can purchase a 4 to 4 pin Firewire cable.
If you have 6 pin Firewire port in your Computer, you can purchase 4 to 6 pin i.LINK cable.
In rare cases, it may also 4 to 9 pin.
Please refer the manual of your computer or contact apple to get the information about the number of pins available on the Computer.
You may also get back to me with the model # of the Computer so that I might be able to check the pin information.
Thanks for understanding.
If you need any further assistance, please let me know..

I'm not able to install drivers for my sony mini DV DCR-TRV22E handycam on mac os.

Hi,

The DCR-TRV22E Camcorder can be connected to the Macintosh Computer with the i.LINK (Firewire) cable. The Software supplied with the Camcorder is not compatible with the Macintosh Computer. Instead you've to use the Firewire cable for connecting the Camcorder to the Computer. You can use the iMovie Software for transferring the videos. You do not require any drivers from Sony, to transfer the video via i.LINK.
You require to purchase either a 4 - pin to 4 - pin or a 4 - pin to 6 - pin i.LINK / Firewire cable depending on the number of pins on the i.LINK / Firewire port of your computer (since Camcorder will have only 4PIN i-LINK, while the Computer may have a 4PIN or 6 PIN i.LINK port).

Thanks for using FixYa.
We wish you a happy Christmas and NewYear!!

Unable to connect Sony DCR-PC3 handy cam to my pc

make sure that you are using the correct firewire plugs (4 pin on the camera and 4 or 6 pin on the computer depending on the computer). If you are sure you have all this correct, check your BIOS settings for a disabled media card or 1394 controller.

How do i get my FA-66 to work via firewire?? please help!!!!!!!

u're probably trying to connect it with a 4 to 6 pins firewire cable to your laptop right?
if so, the laptop firewire connection is usually the small type (4 pins). this kind
of connection does not give Power to the firewire device.
u can buy a pcmcia card with 6pin firewire connections and usa a 6 to 6 firewire cable
and that will work. i hope. :)

New laptop

any laptop that has an iLink 1394 (firewire on apple computers) port and a DVD burner can do it. Any apple laptop with a superdrive (dvd burner) can do it with iMovie/iDVD, and any windows computer with the i.LINK port and Windows Movie Maker can do the job. I know most (if not all) sony, dell, acer and HP laptops come with the i.LINK port standard, just double check the model when you look at the specs. You'll want at least 1gb of ram (preferably 2GB, especially if you're running windows vista), and the firewire cable to connect the computer to the minidv camera (6 pin to 4 pin if you get an apple computer, 4-4 pin if it's a windows notebook)

Connecting Sony Handycam DCR-HC14E to iMac

There is a great manual here:
http://www.sony.co.uk/support/ShowExternalPage.action?product=DCR-HC14E&supportProductModelName=DCR-HC14E&linkType=manual&isRegistered=false&site=odw_en_GB&pageType=manualPopup&sectiontype=Support&externalUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fpdf.crse.com%2Fmanuals%2F3089850112.pdf&externalLinkType=manual
And in short the I.link is a 1394 port or firewire port
You should be good to go

Two units conflict when connected thru Firewire 400

Windows XP and most pcs running it does not natively support firewire,as it was developed by Apple computers. Most Firewire ports on PCs are 4 pin. Your PCI card ( and I take it, its a desktop youre referring to ) should have a 6 pin connection. Firewire connections also have a 7 watt supply via the bus. You may need to open the computer and see if the molex jack on the card is being powered by your computers power supply. Two firewire drives, especially the power hungry Lacie quadras, may be to much consumption for the card. Hope this helps.
