It appears that the firmware update (click here) only fixes minor bugs some of which include DivX issues but does not seem to include more codecs. Here are a list of supported codecs (click here). The only other option seems to be the Transcode Server option (click here); but am not sure if this works for your exact model. So for all intents and purposes unless Iomega sends out a firmware update, with an extend codec pack, you would have to try the Transcode Server option or unfortunately convert your files to a supported format (no joy). Hope this was helpful.

When i download a movie it asks me to download codecavil.com where can i get this from

If you are downloading Avi Files, Traditional Codec will work, if its directing you to download anything else, I would not trust it. play your AVI files with VLC Player. download and install it it has every codec known to man, http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ Installs in seconds and you will never have codec issues again.... Many times when you download a torrent avi file, Spammers often direct you to another website for codec or a password, My advise is to stay away from this if VLC cant play it it cant be played.... have fun and take care.

Media players cant play my .avi movies. i copied a .avi movie from my friend's pc using a flash drive and moved it into my personal pc but my media players wont play it. it did not say it was a missing...

I assume you are using the Windows Media Player to play the .avi formats on your OS Windows PC?

If this is the case, you do not have the necessary "codecs" to play the .avi files. Download & install the latest codec package ie K-Lite Mega Codec Pack or K-Lite Codec Pack @ http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm

Hope it helps.

Why is it that I canot get sound on all the vidios that I play back on my TV from my Screen Play I can only get sound on a few ?

Hi Mary,
Please check the format of the video that you are trying to play.
this Iomega ScreenPlay Plus HD Media Player is certified to play popular DivX video, and supports many of today's popular CODECs and file types, including H.264, WMV and MKV, as well as plenty of others. (For a comprehensive list of supported video, audio and photo files. Most probably the video that you are trying to play is .3GP or .FLV.

For this you need to convert the video files to supporting format like DivX®, DivX Plus™ HD (MKV), XviD, AVI(Xvid, AVC, MPEG1/2/4), ISO, VOB, MP4, MOV, MKV,H.264, WMV, RMVB and MPEG.

Thanks,
Satheesh

How can i play AVI files on my media center/player on vista

Hi,
Windows Vista Media Center won’t play Xvid and Avi files, even if Windows Media Player will play these files. If you want to add support for third party codecs including Xvid and Avi files in Vista Media Center then you need to install the media control plugin for Windows Vista Media Center.
To install the Codec please click on the below link or copy the URL and paste it in your web browser..
http://damienbt.free.fr/index.php#download
This plugin allows Windows Vista Media Center to utilize te FFDShow decoder, which needs to be installed seperately ((FFDShow rev 1108 recommended: download the last version from http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tryout)) FFDShow adds support to Vista for MPEG-4 video formats like DivX, Xvid, H.264 and also alllows MP3, AAC, Dolby AC3, and OGG Vorbis audio files to be played back.
have any other queries, please let me know..
Thank you.....

File won't play video

The reason that the video is not playing is because the video uses certain "codecs" to decode the video. (It is basically a way that the computer interprets how to display the video on your screen.)

You need to install a good codec pack so that you can play all formats of video and/or audio.

I recommend using K-Lite Mega Codec Pack. It plays everything from Windows Media (AVI) to Quicktime files and just about everything in between. This is a very widely-used and popular codec pack. It also comes with a much simpler version of Windows Media Player. (It shows as an older version...and even looks like an older version, but it is only based on the older version as it honestly worked much better than newer versions.)

Here is the link.

(Click HERE to download the codec pack.)

Just use the DEFAULT installation. Don't change anything. There is no need to. Once it is installed, it will use the version of Windows Media Player that I just mentioned by default.

But if you still wish to use version of Windows Media Player that you currently have installed, then you may feel free to do so. It will still play videos using the same codecs that were installed by K-Lite. (All A/V programs will use the codecs.)

Another player I have recently found is GomPlayer. Very nice interface. Clean and easy to use. Install K-Lite and try out GomPlayer if you like afterwards.

HERE is a link. According to the site, you may not have to install any other codec packs after installing GOMPlayer. That may or may not be true. It IS OK if you install both.

Good luck. Let me know how it goes. :)

Avi file

Please down load and install the latest version of media player for your version of windows. or you can download and install winamp with its video plugin which will play .AVI file easily. Also make sure that you have installed correct display driver for your hardware. Normally no video codec is required to play original .AVI file. I think you may have a DV video fire (.AVI) file. This will play if install the DV video codec. Media player classic will play most of the formats.
