Verbatim 350GB USB 2.0 drive. I cannot download the drivers that came on the hard drive. Also the drive is causing freezes on my pc. I also cannot play my music file direct from the hard drive as I get an error message saying thet I do not have the correct software drivers.

No driver is needed, it's just a basic USB external memory. If you get a message about a driver then the pc no longer recognizes it correctly, which means that it has failed.
Your only hope of maybe recovering some data out of it is to dismantle the unit, extract the actual hard disk from within and connect it directly in a desktop - access it from My Computer.

It has password protection. Open My Computer on your PC, insert the USB drive, open the password file, enter your password, then select the option to remove password protection from the USB drive. If this does not work, contact Verbatim for a solution, these USB flash drives have lifetime warranties.

Try the following:

1. Restart your computer. Check again if the HD is missing.

IF it is still missing, THEN try

2. Unplug the USB drive and plug into another USB slot on your computer. Look for the drive again. If it doesn't show up then do Step 1 again.

A couple of other things to check :

Did the USB drive come with software or drivers that required being installed?

Does the USB drive connect to the computer (type, MAC / PC) that you are using?

For example, sometimes drives are made to work with a particular system, i.e., MAC or PC. AND then there are other USB drives that interface with both systems.

If you have the manual for your drive you can check the Troubleshooting section of the manual. If you don't then you can go to the Verbatim website and download a manual.

Hi , Verbatim is known to commenly have faulty HDD's ...try using different USB ports aswell , if you want to figure out where or what the problem is , try it on a different PC if it does the same , it is the HDD if it doesnt its just something on your PC ...there could also be a Virus that made its way onto your HDD , Try scanning it for Virus's and Try again..if it does it again , it is the HDD that is faulty....Try take it back to the shop then and see what they say.....

I checked the Verbatim website for common Windows/USB drive problems. Since I don't know your exact model the information I'm giving is pretty general, but from the Verbatim website it looked like something that could help.

For one, Verbatim says you don't need drivers for your drive to work, but if you're having issues installing their driver might help. Go to their website (Verbatim.com) and in the top left go to "Support". From there you should be able to enter your model and download drivers. The installation instructions are usually on the same page.

The second potential fix is to increase the USB power to the drive. The Verbatim site says that some of their drives require plugging into 2 USB ports to get enough power to run the drive. If this is the case for your drive, you should've gotten a USB cable that is shaped like a "Y". The two wires at the "top" of the "Y" go into two USB ports on your computer. It also said that if even you didn't get the cable you could still be having power issues. You'll have to go to the Support section of the site and enter your model number to see if this could still be the problem.
