Lexmarkx73 Won't feed paper through while printing

When try to copy something. The scanner works but the printer always jams or doesn't feed the paper through. I push the paper feed button and the paper comes through, but not while it is printing. Why?

Printer feeds but will not track thru while printing ...

If I shut printer off, then turn ON

I can manually advance paper .... while "jigging the partially loaded paper" ...

I realize the X73 is no longer manufactured ... finding parts may be near impossible.

I haven't taken the printer apart yet .. if there is another way to resolve this issue.

I had same problem and found that there is a thumbtack stuck in the printer feed area. How in the world do I get it out?

1. Turn the printer off and open the access cover.
2. Look for any obstructions in the paper path and remove them if necessary. (It is possible to move the carrier assembly with the power off.)
3. Turn the printer on, load some paper, and press the Form Feed button. (On the X83, press the Select button.)
4. Watch the paper as it feeds through and try to determine where the jam is occurring.
5. Check to see if all the rollers are turning.

If all the rollers are turning, there may be something in the feed path that you can't see. Go to step 6.
If not, there is probably a feed motor or a gear problem and the printer may require service.
6. If the paper is jamming under the carrier assembly, you may be able to fix it using the manual feed slot.
7. Turn the printer off.
8. Take a #10 envelope and feed it through the left side of the manual feed slot until it comes right through the printer to the back of the exit rollers.
9. Move it up and down first, and then slowly move it over to the right side. If something is stuck under the black guide plate, this may work it loose.

The clicking is a broken roller drive gear. It is visible with the cart. door open and look at the left side of the paper feed roller. You can see the gears turning but the roller gear is broken so it clicks as the next gear hits the gap in the broken gear. This is also causing the paper feed problem due to the broken gear is turning but is no longer turning the paper feed roller. If anyone knows where to find this gear or ***'y please let me know. Mine is broken too.

I had the same problem and HP claimed it was the roller on the feed unit. I do think they are programed to feed a little different for scaned documents than copied docs. HP gave me a new printer worth more rather than even try to fix it. Here is a tip. Take the insurance on the extended protection especially if you have a 4 unit function (fax, scanner, copier and printer) chances are 1 function will break before the end of your extended protection. You always get a new unit, rather than them fixing it. It's really worth the 50 bucks if you buy a high end unit.

Open the printer cover and look closely for tiny paper shreds that might got stuck between the rollers. If you have a canned air, try blowing out the paper path as those tiny piece of paper might be blocking the paper sensor.

My adf jams. It does not feed the paper through it is missing the exit slot and jamming on the scanner. Is my scanner light spposed to always be on when the clover is closed? Thanks Richard Earle

Yes, the scanner light is normal always on, even if the cover is closed.
Try cleaning the rollers with some water.
Check if there is a piece of paper or staple or something else in the paper path.
If still jamming you need an engineer to service your ADF.
Please use the platen mode to make copies

Good luck and please rate me, thanks.

Always paper jam.

Check to see if something isn't blocking the paper path.

You could try cleaning the feed rollers as well.
