Question about Sony VAIO VGN-S460 Notebook

Possible Virus or Spyware

My internet and other programs have become harder to open. A Vista Antivirus message pops up everytime I try to go into something. Also my computer locks up when I try to open the Control Panel. The privacy level will not remain at "medium high" it goes back to "allow all cookies" and the pop-up blocker will not stay on. Can you help?

Preventing Spywares from Entering your System is not that Difficult.
You should Never Trust a Pop Up that Says your System is Infected or Anything Like that if it is a Message from your Internet Browser. Following are some of the Thumb Rules that can prevent Spywares from Entering your System:
Stop Visiting Websites that offer Cracked Softwares or Other Illegal Activity.
Do Not Visit Porn Related Websites.
Do not Visit Websites that Generate Unwanted Pop Ups.
DO NOT Click on Any Pop Ups that are Generated by your Internet Browser. (ALWAYS Use the RED X on the Top Right To Close the Pop Up)
Avoid using File Sharing Softwares. If you are using them, use it very carefully and Read the "License Agreement" Before Installing those Softwares, as they may mention about other Softwares that are being installed.
Install a Good Antivirus and Keep it Updated Regularly.
Keep your Windows OS Regularly Updated and if Possible, be sure that Service Pack 2 is installed as it also has a good Pop Up Blocker.
Install a Good Anti Spyware like Ad Aware or Spy Sweeper or Windows Defender and Keep it Updated.
Run a Virus Scan using Antivirus at least Once a Week.
Run a Spyware Scan using Anti Spywares at least Once in every 3 or 4 days (If Possible Every Night Before Turning Computer Off).

If you are using Mozilla Firefox go to TOOLS then OPTIONS you should be able to see a box beside the word Home Page. Type in that box the website you want your browser to open everytime you open Mozilla Firefox

if you are using Internet Explorer go to TOOLS then INTERNET OPTIONS it should be the same with Mozilla Firefox. a box beside the word Homepage. Type in that box the website you want Internet Explorer to open everytime you open Internet Explorer

IF the website you are ferreing to just INSTANTLY POPS OUT. then it is an adware (virus), you need to have your antivirus program scan your computer.

Sounds like you have spyware. This is a common problem. Try the following.

Turn the system restore off. System restore keeps everything in restore. Meaning......... If you have spyware or a virus, it will stay in your system. Run Spybot S&D (This program is free and is better than using msconfig as long as you go through the settings and change everything to the highest settings.) Then do the same with Adaware 2008 (sounds stupid to use 2 things for spyware, but one catches what the other one does not.). I have links on my website (tandnfamilyelectronics-online.com). These links go directly to the download so you will not get the run around. You would do good to try a program called Window Washer (http://www.download.com/Free-Internet-Window-Washer/3000-2144_4-10436825.html?cdlPid=10731707). This is a great program that completely cleans anything in your computer that you do not need. It will not clean out anything that you have to have. I have used this for years to clean out my customers computers and have cleaned as much as 3 gigs of trash out. If you contact me I will give you some tools that I have for free that will do a great job on your computer. I have them ready to download and I will give you the link. (dean@tandnfamilyelectronics-online.com)

Send me the complete specs of your system and I can help you more. I hope that this helps you. There is no reason the really buy a program for spyware when there are free things to use that work great. Free AVG is a great Antivirus and yes it is also free. It will check your e-mail coming and going. It will also let your friends now that the E-mail does not have a virus. It also has a spyware program that is free. This day and time with all of the spyware out on the net you can never have too many programs for spyware. I would not run all of them at the same time though. Make sure that you do not use your computer during any scan. Defrag is also something to do after you do everything else. Some people will tell you that should not reload your computer. If nothing seems to work then sometimes that is the only good way to get it repaired right. Most of the programs that come pre-installed on a store bought computer is useless and most are even trail software that causes problems when they expire. Let me know if this helps at all. Please rate me as FIXYA if it helps.

you need a strong firewall program like zone alarm
and spyware programs like spywareblaster and spy bot these programs are free bee's not shareware full functioning programs
you need to upgrade service pack 2 and internet explorer 7 with built in pop up blocker

wacovia pop ups are a phishing program looking to destroy comps these are spy ware and trojans hiding ready to strike once you get the recommended programs up these spy's should disapear
