Garmin 260W screen stays white

My screen stays white when I turn it on. I can hear the voice and the screen beeps when you touch it. used it once and then plugged it in to the car to charge it and the screen flickered and went white

Unit is defective. If under 1 year, it's under warrantee. Send it back.

Nuvi 2555mt lost voice


First, do you hear beeps when you press a selection on the screen? If yes, then your speaker is OK and the audio circuits are OK in the unit. Make sure that you have a voice selected in the voice menu. Some units have an audio mixer screen and provide different volume settings for navigation (voice) and system (beeps). maybe the volume for the voice (navigation) is set to off. If you don't hear any beeps when you touch the screen AND you don't hear a voice, make sure that the sound isn't set to be muted. If the sound isn't muted, you may have a defective speaker. If you are not receiving any sound on your N?vi 2xx thefirst thing to check is that the sound is not muted. I'm not getting verbal directions from my Garmin nuvi 260W. How can I fix this problem. A day ago it was working properly.

How do I reset my 260w to name the streets


The GPS is equipped to name streets even with voice.
Sometimes this options are disabled by the user.
In the case of the streets, the closer you zoom in, the more detail you get. This would include street names.

We have no verbal direction on our garmin nuvi 260 & it is not on mute. This Garmin is 1 yr old & we have not had this problem in the past. It has not been used for awhile & when we plugged it...

Gamin nuvi 260W - Cannot set to text-to-voice.


Garmin automotive GPS devices that have text-to-speech (speak street names) are also loaded with pre-recorded voices that do not speak street names (example: "Turn Right in 500 feet"). If one of these pre-recorded voices has been selected, the voice prompts will not speak street names.
To change the voice prompt to spoken street names:
  1. Touch Tools (Wrench icon) from the Main Menu
  2. Touch Settings*
  3. Select Language or Locale
  4. Touch the Voice language option
  5. Select a voice option that includes a person's name (ex. Emily) or TTS. Options without a name or the TTS label will say the distance until the next turn, but will not include the street name.
  6. Select OK
The device should now speak street names.
*Note: The Setting option is not required on all nuvi units.

Re: Not sayinstreet names.
After you turn on your unit touch the wrench icon in the bottom right of the screen, this will take you to a menu which features "Settings" in the upper left of the screen. Touch "settings" and scroll down to "language" by using the up and down buttons in the lower right of the screen (down 1 should do it). Touch "Language" and in the voice category find and select "American English - Jill (TTS)". This is the voice that will give you Text To Speech (TTS) speaking the street names in English. If you prefer Spanish or French, find the appropriate catergories with "(TTS)" beside them - "Espanol Americas - Paulina (TTS)" and "Francais Canadien - Julie (TTS)" respectively. Any other selection will only give directional instructions such as "turn left in XXX".

After you have selected your voice press "OK" and back out to your main menu showing "Where to?" and View Map".

Now, when you navigate, you should hear an American female voice giving you directions by street name - assuming your volume is high enough to hear it.

RE: The computer icon displaying when you try to use your unit in the car with the 12 VDC cord.
You probably have a problem with the cord. The pin length in the USB style connector is critical and if it doesn't match up just right the GPS thinks it is hooked up to a computer. If you know someone who has a Garmin NUVI try using their cord and see if you have the same problem. Either way, call Garmin and see if they will send you a replacement cord or otherwise help fix the problem.

Garmin nuvi 350 troubleshooting


1)Does it make beeping sounds when you touch the screen buttons?

2)Can you hear the voice when you listen through an external headset?

If your answer is no to #1 and yes to #2 then you may have a dead speaker.

In the setup screen there is a way to select different voices/languages.  Try a different voice.

When those models first came out there was a problem with the software not recognizing the voice files.  There was a free update done to correct the problem.  If your current software version is less than 5.00 you should update.
